I’ve tasted things I can’t describe, like Pan and Pani-puri. Pani-puri is small, crunchy, hollow deep fried balls. The are punctured by the cook’s thumb, stuffed full of spicy vegetables and Cilantro, dipped in a sweet juice, and eaten: crunchy, juicy, sweet and hot. Amazing.

Anyway, here’s me in an Auto (rickshaw) driving through an intersection. In total it took about 5 minutes to drive ten feet; here’s the final minutes of claustrophobic, smelly traffic chaos. Par for the course in India.

It turns out employers want to see wireframes, clean edge loops and textures, too, so forgive the abundance of those things.

I have a couple of projects on the go and will update the page as often as I can. A lot of the 3D on that page is kinda old now.

I owe that guy several beers. Anyway, my reel is not truly ‘finished’ (are they ever, really?), but it’s about as close as it’s going to get for now.
It also uses pretty much everything I’ve learned… modeling, texturing, lighting, rigging, weighting, particles, fluid effects, soft body dynamics, etc etc. It’s got it all, in one short film!

I hope you like it! I’m kinda sick of looking at it, to be honest, but then, I’ve been working on it for four months…

I’m really happy to say that I’ve grabbed the latest version of Democracy, and it works! Democracy has been dogged in the last 4 months or so by instability, non-functionality and major bugginess, which resulted in me abondoning it entirely. It basically wouldn’t even launch on my Mac.
But those days are over! The latest version of Democracy (0.8.4.1 as of this writing) claims to have fixed all bugs and increased speed, and from what I can tell, those claims aren’t bogus. I can get my Some-Pig fix once more, and can be seduced again by Rocketboom’s Amanda! Well done, Democracy.app developers.

You can get Democracy, and ‘Internet TV platform’ for Mac, Linux and Windows. It’s free and open source; give it a try!

Edit: As a cool aside, it uses hooks into your computer platform’s native media players to play the video; on Mac, click a playing video to switch to fullscreen Quicktime playback. Neat!

Man, have I ever been busy. One reason for this was an environment assignment at my school… we had to model, texture, light, and render 200 frames for one of our Maya classes.

My original idea was to create a complete Japanese garden, circa feudal Japanese times. I put a tremendous amount of work into modeling and texturing the bridges, lanterns, lilly pads, trees, gates, etc. But it became clearer as time went on that I had bitten off more than I could chew… long story short, time constraints dictated that I pare back my idea to a simpler scene. Which is what you see here.

It turned out pretty nice. I’m going to finish it at a later date, as it’s going on my demo reel as a background for a scene.

A little over a month ago I discovered an App called Democracy. As an aside, I first thought Democracy was a tongue in cheek name for their internet-TV-viewing product; after all, if “democracy” or choice and proactivity was reduced to watching videos on a screen, well… it seemed pretty trite. Especially considering the number of Americans who vote versus the number of Americans who watch TV.
But it turns out Democracy is not a tongue in cheek name; the developers called it that because in theory, everyone with camcorder and a PC (or rather: Mac) and an internet connection potentially has a voice in the world; their own “TV station” so to speak. At least among others with Computers and internet connections. So Democracy-the-App is a means of gathering said videos and attempting (though failing, IMHO) to present them in an intelligible, organized manner. Sounds noble.
But I digress. The first “Channel” I clicked on was as fate would have it, Some Pig. Some Pig is an outlet for very experimental (read: seriously weird and hilarious) videos, just the sort of thing I go for. The first video I watched was Rezelscheft, which… caught me off guard to say the least. Evil geniuses.
The second video I watched was Ten Second Holiday, which was poignant and mesmerizing.
The third video I watched, and the reason I am posting this, is the sublime dream-like Together We Ride by Kevin Hooyman. The simple beauty, the dreamy mistiness, the soft colors and silent, thoughtful creatures that inhabit this brief slice of empathy really hit me. This is a really fantastic video. I find it touching; a celebration of the better side of humanity that is not seen so often. Check it out.
