Slickr 0.6.3 released! (update: WordPress 2.5 info)
Download it | What is it? | See it in action
WordPress 2.5 users: You will have to create the page the gallery is on. My gallery is at stimuli.ca/gallery/, so I had to create a blank page called “gallery” or else the gallery would not load.
Slickr Gallery is a very fast Flickr photo album plugin for WordPress. It uses AJAX extensively to minimize bandwidth use and present a slick user interface.
New in this release:
- Bugfixes galore!
- Private photos no longer shown in Wiget/Block.
- UTF-8 languages no longer mangled when posting a photo in a blog entry.
- Gallery thumbnail size is adjustable in Slickr Gallery’s Options page.
- Theme styles are updated.
- Album selection and de-selection now works.
It’s early days for Slickr Gallery, but you will hopefully find it very usable. Please post feedback in the comments below.
PLEASE READ THE INCLUDED readme.txt BEFORE POSTING A COMMENT!

I came across this plugin while looking for a nice way to show a image gallery.. i really do like the way it is supposed to function. but for the theme i currently have it is acting glichy…
all i want is it to fit in the width of the blog and not include all the side bar info below it…
i really dont want to go crazy..
check out my problem at
http://testblog.versusdsn.com/slickr/
thanks for any help
g
I’ve added a Simplus theme to 0.6.1
Great plugin, certainly one of the best around if not the best for Flickr integration.
I am having problems with my install though where the “(view gallery)” function doesn’t seem to work. I have set it up as /gallery in the settings but i get a 404 when I click on it. You can check it out at http://ph0.com.au/litmus/ Is it possibly because it is running on IIS?
I love the widget functionality but I would also love to have the gallery functionality too just to top it off. I plan to have lots of pics as we head on our honeymoon next week and would love to share them with friends and family in the nicest way possible.
Mark: Your first album is marked private on Flickr.
Hey Rupert,
I checked my Flickr page and the photos seem to be set to “public” Is threre something I am missing?
In my Slickr settings the Flickr Account: says Custa but it also says that “Slickr Gallery’s access is read only”
None of your links work. I suggest switching to Apache for web serving. Slickr appears to be the least of your web site problems…
Rupert,
After I updated the plugin with the latest version 0.6.3, I get the following error when I click on the “photos” tab below the write post dialog, to insert a Flickr photo into the post:-
//
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mb_detect_encoding() in /home/****/public_html/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/templates/admin-photos-tab.php on line 215
//
Line 215 of admin-photos-tab.php shows this:-
// $encoding = mb_detect_encoding($str,’UTF-8, ISO-8859-1′);//
I think the changes have been made in the file to enable, as you have listed, “UTF-8 languages no longer mangled when posting a photo in a blog entry.”
Can you please offer me a solution to my problem?
Thanks in advance.
Regards
S.K
Thanks, S.K.
I’ll work on a fix. I’m currently in India and have almost no net access at the moment… but that should soon change.
Hey Rupert, this is a great plugin! The interface is beautiful. I’m wondering if you’re working on an inline uploader for flickr, too? I’m trying to learn a little about how plugins work and noticed several references to “upload files” in the code. I think a plugin that could upload files directly to Flickr from the WP editor is the holy grail of Flickr plugins, it would be great to see that someday.
Cheers,
Dalton
Hi Dalton,
I will mull that over. It is certainly possible.
That said, I am in India, without regular internet, and have other features planned first.
Hi,
it’s possible for “write post” add support of the album for select album where is the files?
Thank you for future version
It doesn’t work to me… i’ve configured it “well”, but when I access the url that i’ve configured in the Slickr Gallery URL it returns me a 404 page not found error!
Could you help me?
Thanks and congratulations, the plug-in is great!
Jordi
Hi Rupert!
Very nice work !!
I just wanna now I can show collections instead albuns with this plugin ?
I have a short tutorial on how to make themes for this Plugin to match any theme your working on. It worked for me, so I assume it will work for everyone. If not, let me know and I can try and help. I don’t offer free services other then the content on my site, so please be considerate since I am a student.
Looks really nice! And would love to use it. But would it be possible to just blog one (or several) album(s) in a single post, rather than (or in addition to) having a separate gallery section?
I have problem when I want to configure slickr in options>slickr gallery
message:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class pear in
…htdocs/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/phpFlickr/PEAR/PEAR.php on line 103
how to fix it?
The slickr plugin is the best for Word Press that I’ve seen.
I’ve been having problems with the flick-cache folder. I tried Refresh Albums which failed, then went to manually delete the cache folders and realised that the owner and group of the folders were all set to 99. Do you know if this is a bug or whether it’s likely to be a problem with something else? Any ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks for any help
Louis
Great plugin,
I have set everything up but when I go to the link slickr provides me ( http://www.drewmacneil.com/photography ) I get a 404 error. It will only work if I click the actual link in the options tab in the administrator panel. Also, is there a way to integrate the gallery into a page on the site? What code would I use?
Thanks
Drew

For those who are getting a 404 error, are you including the trailing “/” at the end of your URL? Because mine only works when I have that ending forward slash there – http://blog.sixhours.net/slickr/ works, but http://blog.sixhours.net/slickr does not. Hope this makes sense.
I love how Slickr allows me to include photos from my Flickr account in my posts seamlessly and easily. Thank you so much for this wonderful plugin!
Alas, I’m having major issues getting the gallery part to work, and I’ve been banging my head against the problem for the last three days to no avail. It’s probably something simple that I’m overlooking, but here goes.
When I visit my gallery page (currently located at http://blog.sixhours.net/slickr/) the “Loading” icon never disappears, and no Flickr content appears on the page. My gallery never loads.
I don’t have a problem loading my Flickr photos in my administration area, only in the publicly-viewable gallery. I thought it might be because I’m using a subdomain, but then I noticed others are using the same plugin on a subdomain with success. So then I thought my server might not have AJAX support, but other AJAX apps seem to work fine. I’m stumped.
I was just wondering if you had any insights as to what I’m missing?
Thanks much!
Argh, the Slickr gallery addresses I posted are incorrect. They’re actually at:
http://www.sixhours.net/blog/slickr/
Sorry *sheepish*
Best plugin ever – I love it. One issue though. My Flickr account settings prevent people from downloading my images from Flickr. Now however, nothing prevents them from downloading the images from my website. I’m not sure if I’m mistaken, but wasn’t “save picture as” and “save target as..” disabled in a previous version of Slickr?
It would be great if Slickr could mimic the Flickr account settings in this way.
Thanks for a great plugin.
Hi there,
I really love the script / plugin that you have made, it really works well with my site.
What I would like to know is, is it possible for a default appears to show straight away rather than having to select a Album before any content appears.
I ask this as in testing alot of people dint realise what to do straight away which confuses people and turns them away from a website.
I hope this is possible.
Regards,
Chris
Is there anyway to invoke the slickr gallery without using a widget or web-page, I’d like to insert in into my sidebar, but the widgets wipe out some functionality I require to make the page work, just something like or something similar…
Is there any way to use Highslide JS with Slickr Gallery instead of straight Lightbox 2? Slimbox and Slightbox don’t seem to work either, and they’re supposed to be drop-in replacements for Lightbox 2. When they’re activated instead of Lightbox 2, the spinner just keeps spinning and nothing gets loaded.
Firebug throws:
“Ajax is not defined
[Break on this error] Ajax.Responders.register({”
Great plugin, thanks for the hard work. : )
Jordan
Caroline: I’m glad to see you got it working. I take it you installed my Lightbox plugin? That will get slickr past the Loading… screen. PS: I like your CSS for Slickr! Very nice… good to see people customizing for their needs. Well done.
Marie: I’ll maybe get to that some day, but not soon :(
Chris: I’ll be adding that functionality at a future date, for sure, as well as the ability to post albums to blog posts and adding permalinks to albums within slickr.
Darren: There are flickr sidebar plugins that are much smaller and simpler than Slickr… give one of those a try!
Jordan: Slickr uses the Prototype javascript library. The reason Slickr requires lightbox is because Lightbox also uses the Prototype libraries. Because of this, I have not included the proptype libs in Slickr; they are added by lightbox and then slickr shares the libs. This speeds page loading times, and prevents JS library conflicts.
Since slickr needs prototype anyway, there’s no speed advantage for Slimbox or alternatives, as those libs need to be loaded whether you use lightbox or not.
Make sense?
Yes, I understand now, thanks for the quick reply Rupert. However, I prefer Highslide’s presentation, so I guess I’ll just make sure the Prototype libs get loaded and start hacking away at your plugin. : )
Cheers,
Jordan
Now that I’ve actually looked at all the code, I could have answered my own questions and developed a solution in just a few minutes. It’s crude and bloated at the moment, but Slickr Gallery with Highslide instead of Lightbox works just fine. I’ll post a link after I’ve cleaned it up.
Thanks again Rupert.
Jordan
Thanks very much for this plugin. It works beautifully:
http://www.ilyserobbins.com
I have both public and private photos in my albums. Is there a way to get slickr to display the number of public photos rather than the total number of photos in the album?
Thanks,
Glen
Hi Rupert, first of all, thanks for the plugin!
My issue is that while the gallery works perfectly in Firefox and Safari (latest versions) it does NOT work in IE (using 6)…I get a 404 error every time.
Pulling my hair out because I can’t think of a reason for why this would be happening.
Help?
Thanks,
Patrick
Hi Rupert, first of all, thanks for the plugin!
The plugin page Show”404 NOT FOUND” in my blog head. I don’t know why.
And my sidebar one more ,the one is good,but the redundant….under my photos pages,please help me!
http://blog.ivandoo.com/photos/
I know why..
delete view.php:
is ok..
I think is to load once again…
but “404 NOT FOUND” I don’t know why!
pleace help me !thanks for u!
wow,the php code in view.php not to show..but is ok!:)
Quote Rupert:
“I’ll be adding that functionality at a future date, for sure, as well as the ability to post albums to blog posts and adding permalinks to albums within slickr.”
…………..
Hi Rupert,
Thats great news I look forward to seeing this update, I tried modding the code but dont have enough skills yet so this update will be good.
On another note, once installed the page where my gallery is it states “Page Not Found” in the title bar?
Just seeing if this fix could be added to your next relasie.
Regards,
Chris
Great plugin, it works perfectly fine! Thanks.
But I’m having this problem lately:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_detect_encoding() in (root folder)/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/templates/admin-photos-tab.php on line 215
I can see S.K up there is having the same problem.
Can you help me on this? Thanks in advance!
Glen & Chris: I’ll look into both those requests.
Chris: If/when I make slickr gallery embeddable in a page, the page title will be in the header.
Thanks for the plugin! It’s been working really well, but suddenly today, it just keeps saying loading Flickr.com content and never gets to the galleries. It seems to be working on your site and others so I wonder what I may have done? I haven’t changed anything since almost I got it working? Very strange!
Is there a way that I can call up the gallery from a WordPress page? I’ve got runPHP installed. Basically what I’d like to do is make the gallery my home page, not a secondary page. Thanks!
I keep getting this error “Sorry, the Flickr API service is not currently available.” when I try to apply permission.
Anything I am doing wrong here?
KA
Marissa: I’ll peep that when I get home.
Olly/KA: Maybe Flickr.com is having issues? Does the problem persist?
Josiah: That’s in the works.
Rupert: Awesome to hear. Any idea of when? I’m having an awful time trying to trick WordPress when the gallery is not an actual page listed in the database. I wish I knew some PHP.
Rupert, thanks. I have done some more experimenting and I think that the problem seems to be a conflict of some type with the share-this plugin. Do you have any idea what this could be or how to resolve it? Thanks again!
figured out the problem – there was an error in the view.php file in the minimalia theme folder. it looks like “id=”post-” was missing from the first tag (it’s present in the other view.php files for the other themes), so i added it back in and it now works in all versions of IE.
Olly: It sounds to me like another Prototype.js/Scriptaculous.js file is clobbering my plugin’s. Check your page’s html for multiple instances.
There’s a problem with clearing the cache. With the method that you are using, the whole flickr-cache directory is deleted and a new one is created. I got a permissions error and I couldn’t delete the directory manually because the web server is under a different username than my FTP account. So I had to write a php script in order to delete it.
This is a really quick fix:
step 1. create the directory /wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/cache/
step 2. set the permissions to ‘cache’ directory to 777
step 3. in slickr.php replace all instances of ‘flickr-cache’ to ‘cache/flickr-cache’
Hello! been trying your plugin a couple of days ago… I have it working right now with your lightbox. Works like a charm in Firefox, but in IE 6 I have two problems:
My slickr page is at
http://cliente.brandone.com.co/gsky/showcase/
But in IE 6 it shows a ‘page not found’ almost everytime I try to access it, I have to hit F5 several times before the page starts to load. I’m using a custom template and posting a direct link to my slickr gallery right in my menu. Dont know whats wrong, because I works all the time in Firefox.
My second problem is that the fonts look pretty ugly in IE6. When Slickr loads first time everything looks smooth, but right when it tries to load an effect (I think) the fonts start looking bad. Dont know whats wrong, as my first problem, everything looks fine in Firefox.
My site is at
http://cliente.brandone.com.co/gsky/showcase/
Any help is really appreciated!
Hi Rupert,
Is there a special section where you can post suspected bugs or conflicts with other plugins?
As I think I have found it conflicts with Google Sitemap Plugin.
Doing more testing.
Quick question for anyone. I just finished putting Slickr into my site and for whatever reason it renders fine in Safari and FireFox on my Mac, but my IE friends on Windows say they get this error: “The webpage cannot be found.”
For the life of me, I can’t understand why that would happen. Any ideas?
Hi Josiah,
I tested in IE7 and yes I got the 404 error but then I clicked refresh and it loaded?? This also happens to my gallery at http://www.playstationphone.co.uk/wallpapers/
It sometimes appears and sometimes dosent which is strange.
Can you test to see if mine works for you.
Chris,
Your site works great in Safari and Firefox on a Mac. I don’t have a copy of Windows to test it out in IE though.
Hi! I would like to know how can I configure this wonderful plug-in to hide the sidebars of my theme. I’ve created a page-nobars.php without sidebars, but i don’t know how could I aply it!
Hi
When i post a picture i want to be able to click on it and go directly to the flickr slideshow – however when i hover over the link I just get the website/slickr/hash
Is this a web site set up or something I can change in slickr ? without this I am unable to send a link to the slide show.
Cheers
I’m currently testing slickr-gallery with a new host, but when the plugin generates the files/folders inside ‘flickr-cache’, they’re all owned by ‘apache’ of group ‘apache’ with permissions of 750, leaving me unable to delete them if I need to clear the slate and start over because my user account doesn’t have enough permission to administrate those files/folders.
Anyone maybe have any idea how to have the plugin create the files/folders as being owned by a specific account with 755 or 777 permissions automatically?
I’ll look into the permissions thing. So you’re saying that the Refresh button on the Options page doesn’t work?
For a theme with no sidebar, remove “< ?php wp_sidebar ?>” from the view.php you are using.
Hello Rupert,
The refresh button throws: “Clearing the cache failed. Manually delete the ‘flickr-cache’ directory.” But I cannot delete the flickr-cache folder because the contents are owned by ‘apache’ of group ‘apache’ with permissions of 750. My user account with my new host lacks the permissions to change (chmod or chown) things owned by ‘apache’.
To do anything with the cache, I would have to submit a ticket to the helpdesk each time, which is just not feasible.
I’d like to be able to have the script generate the cache under my user account instead of under ‘apache’, or at least generate the cache as 777.
Is there a way to set slickr-gallery to ‘db’ caching instead of ‘fs’ caching? I see that phpflickr has that option, but I’m not certain if that would work with your plugin nor do I know exactly where to make that change if it were a possible solution.
Maybe I could bypass all of the permissions unpleasantry.
Any thoughts?
Josiah,
Thanks for testing it out. My site seems to have settled now, it only throws up a 404 error when the plug-in is first installed. Seems to be fine now.
I love this plug-in but I cannot get the main portion of it to show any images.
Basically I get a working sidebar – the admin shows all of my images – but when I view the Slickr page, I get no images at all.
Any ideas on how to fix it?
Is there any way to create different (multiple) slickr galleries associated with different pages on my website with a single install? If not, is there any way that I could do this?
Jack: Not yet.
Jordan: The weird thing is that if Apache makes the folder, it can also delete it. Sounds like your webhosts are making your life difficult.
Open lib.flickr.php and change:
define(“SLICKR_FLICKR_CACHEMODE”, “fs”);
to:
define(“SLICKR_FLICKR_CACHEMODE”, “db”);
Paul: link?
After I upgraded, the photos page in the write post screen cuts off the many pages, still displays some old photos on page 1, but nothing beyond page 2, but page numbering goes up to 10.
Hi,
I really like these plugins, but for some reason I can’t change the permalinks. I can use the widget, but that’s it. Is it possible to make it all work without changing the links?
Annys
PS: I’m not great with php and all… ;-)
The link was in my post – if you click on my name. http://paulgriswold.org
Thanks!
Hello, I’ve removed the sidebar as suggested earlier and replaced it with a much smaller column of ads. However, for the life of me I can’t find where in the code I can change the gallery’s 5 thumbnail width to another (larger) value. Can you give me a hint?
Thanks.
Please disregard my previous comment, it was an error in my own css.
Rupert – I am having the same problem as Marissa:
Call to undefined function mb_detect_encoding() in…
Any ideas?
My problem with the flickr cache was fixed after I downgraded to 0.6.2
Ah I figured what what’s wrong, the photos that didn’t appear were the ones I marked as private. Perhaps an option should be included to let me choose if I want private photos to appear in the list of photos? I sometimes include private photos in my posts.
actually, it seems to be working for me now. Not sure what I did. neat plugin, tho!
Still not working for me :-(
JustKristin: My bad. The function being called doesn’t exist in my code. D’oh!
Paul: Have you checked the checkboxes for your albums in the options page? It looks to me like you haven’t. That, or your albums are private instead of public.
Scott: My rationale is if the photos are private, you don’t want them on the interweb. Private photos are auto-yanked. No options pending.
Thanks – actually there are no check boxes for the albums on the options page. It shows the images as icons – all my albums are public. But where there should be check boxes, there’s nothing but blank space.
i’m working on a new project, and i have installed slickr gallery plugin,
i go to the page for preview–> all is ok
when i click the link to show the picture i get an error “….invalid for each supplied argument……. can’t modify header……..”… i have been trying for a whole day and i can’t find any solution
i will be thankfull if someone help me as soon as possible, please, the project is so urgent
http://www.creativethirst.net/kjell
I’m getting the dreaded 404 in IE. I’ve tested the gallery in Safari and Firefox (both mac and PC) and it works perfectly. I want to make a donation, but I need to know that this is going to work. I’ve had a web dev friend of mine look it over and he couldn’t figure it out. I’ve checked the .htaccess file, the mod_rewrite setting, and redirects. I’ve tried different themes, all with zero success. Anyone know what the solution is? Rupert?
Thanks in advance.
I just don’t get it, everything is installed – and under the options I see everything I need – the plugin has all the permissions to retrieve the images – but what next?
I just don’t understand the “Slickr Gallery URL:” bit – is this suppose to point to a page? Or am I suppose to create a new folder on my webhost? I’m really trying but I just dont get it…how do I view a gallery?
Help me please!!
great work by the way!
@John Haines . . . From what how I set it up the gallery url is the path for php mod_rewrite to create a directory and cache stuff. You don’t have to create the directory as that could potentially cause problems. For example my blog is at creativethirst.net/kjell but my gallery is at creativethirst.net/kjell/gallery/
The gallery pull images off of flickr and displays them in a css customizable way. It’s pretty slick er. But for some reason I can’t get it to work correctly in IE. FF it looks great, Safari and FF on mac looks great too. I also just discovered that I’m having problems in the write post. It’s breaking the “photo” tab for some reason. Hopefully Rupert will chime in soon.
Kjell
Hi Kjell, thanks for that – so do I type in anything and that will automatically create a folder or a page? (Sorry – I really have got my thick head on tonight).
yup . . . it can be whatever you want. Post what you choose and I’ll check it out too if you want.
ok….well, in the box for slickr gallery url: I typed “test” ..ie: http://funkybeatz.net/site/test/ but then it says page not found? I can put images into a post no-problem – but I just can’t set up the albums….
@John, you’re having pretty much the opposite problem I am. You might check your mod_rewrite settings. I know I couldn’t get the gallery to come up for a friend until I added mod_rewrite to the root .htaccess file. But . . . maybe I should wait for the author of the plugin to speak to this.
Hey Rupert, I tried to make my photos public in my account, but they still don’t show up in my page (even with the cache purged)
Kjell: Weird. I too cannot see your gallery under IE7. Whatever it is, it appears to be server specific. Make it so that wordpress handles your 404s.
try adding this to your .htaccess (change path accordingly):
php_value include_path ‘.:/var/www/vhosts/kjell/httpdocs/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/phpFlickr/’
Some error output from your logs would be helpful.
John: The URL is where you want the image gallery to reside, like /gallery/ on this site. As Kjell pointed out, do _not_ create a real directory there… it is a virtual directory, that when called, displays the gallery.
Scott: Try again today…. maybe flickr was having issues (it happens).
Tried adding that line to the .htaccess file and got a 500 error. For the sake of brevity, I’ll refrain from posting the error messages here. Needless to say there was really nothing interesting in them. Same 2 errors over and over. file not found: 404.shtml and another file not found: /blog/ then there’s the error that occurs when I added the line to the .htaccess file.
[Wed Feb 20 00:57:32 2008] [error] [client 71.92.117.170] File does not exist: /home/creative/public_html/500.shtml

[Wed Feb 20 00:57:11 2008] [error] [client 71.92.117.170] File does not exist: /home/creative/public_html/500.shtml
Any further thoughts. or any other information I can provide?
Hey Rupert,
I´m not able to refresh my albums…
“Clearing the cache failed. Manually delete the ‘flickr-cache’ directory.”
If i do so, the next time i refresh my album there aren´t any new pictures included.
Any idea? My flickr-cache folder is set “777″ and I already reinstalled the whole package several times without success…
Thanks in advance…
DB caching leads to the same problem… except that there are no files in flickr-cache to manually delete… ;)
Kjell: I’m out of ideas. My slickr, on linux, works fine in IE. Your works fine, on windows, on everything but. I’m at a loss…
Sebastian: Try nuking the entire folder… Slickr will create a new one with (one presumes) the correct permissions to read/write to the folder.
The folder doesn’t contain the pictures, but rather caches the query to Flickr.com and so does not have to query flickr for the same request again.
I asked at the sharethis forums and after a loooong wait they confirmed that there was probably a conflict with Slickr and advised me to dump slickr as it seemed to be infamous for plugin conflicts. Thought you might like to know. They thread is on their forums…hopefully I can sooner or later work out how to change things so that both plugins can play happily together…
Thanks for the heads-up, Olly.
Hi Rupert
I really like this plugin..looks very simple and nice…and also I use the same web theme as yours. But my web server do not have the libcurl library. So I just want to ask, can I use this plugin without the libcurl library? And can this plugin show the photo album on my own server not from the Flickr? Thx~
Hi Rupert,
thanks for your advise. Unfortunately, slickr isn´t able to create “flickr-cache” on its own. I have to create the folder manually and set it to 777… slickr only complains that the folder is not writable/existant instead of creating it.
However, I managed to get a photo into the cached photos. I uploaded it yesterday (into no album) and now it´s obviously cached. But all the photos which were uploaded months ago and sorted into albums last week don´t get cached (even though they have to be cached already, as the single photo of yesterday proves)…
The number of photos on my page is correct, but it does not load all the photos which were unsorted on flickr for months.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance…
Okay… changing photos to “private” and then changing it back to “public” obviously solves the problem… =)
Yeehaw, great plugin…
Thanks for your help!
Hi,
I am trying to edit slickr (v0.6.3) so that when you click on the tumbnail, along with the image title, image number (ie Image 1 of 30), i want the image description to also come up. I have found the API i need to use, how to code to use it, but i dont know WHERE i need to put this code. The logical place of “\slickr-gallery\slickr\templates\photo.php” does nothing, indeed, i have deleted this file with no change at all to the display of the single photo.
thank you.
how to make a wordpress page display the slickr gallery ? tried everything i could think about and still nothing ;-)
Just for the record:
For anyone else rec’ing the following error:
Call to undefined function mb_detect_encoding()
Comment out lines 125 and 126,145 and 147 as well as the entire makeUTF8 function between and including lines 210 thru 220 of admin-photos-tab.php.
I am not sure why UTF8 stuff is broken on mine, but I have a feeling that it has something to do with the fact that I am still running a 4.x version of mysql.
max: Not yet possible
Currently getting the following error from Slickr when trying to complete Step 1 of the authentication process of connecting to my Flickr account:
“Oops! Flickr can’t find a valid callback URL.

Any ideas?
Dear Rupert
Slickr is pretty slick – I like it a lot. Thanks for putting in the time to make such a good WP plugin.
I understand that Slickr uses the Prototype library, and that since Slickr needs a Lightbox, you rely on Lightbox loading Prototype.
For a number of reasons, I would really like to use a different ‘lightbox’ (Slimbox which uses Mootools – Slimbox works with the standard Lightbox rel=”lightbox”). Slimbox is working fine across my site, but obviously not with my Slickr gallery as Prototype is not being loaded.
For my photo page I’m prepared to load Prototype specifically for Slickr, however I can’t get it to work.
I have the following files loaded in the HEAD of my page:
– prototype.js
– scriptaculous.js
– slickr.css
– slickr.js
– mootools.js
– slimbox.js
– slimbox.css
When the page loads Slickr sits there indefinitely showing the loading text and image.
Is there some other library / function call that I need to invoke? What does the usual Lightbox code do at page load that I am missing?
Any help would be really appreciated
Best regards
Steve
Arrrgh…
Don’t worry about my previous post. There seems to be some conflict between MooTools and Prototype. If I include Prototype, some of the moo.fx functions stop working properly.
I may just stick to Lightbox with my Slickr album and Slimbox elsewhere throughout my site.
Regards
Steve
p.s. Have you considered using a different lightbox and a lighter fx library with Slickr? The combined weight of Prototype and Lightbox make page loading times pretty long. I’ve tried a number of JS compression approaches (compressing individual files, php_speedy, etc.) but they all seem to break Lightbox/Slickr…. ah well :-/
Arrrgh!
Don’t worry about my previous post. There seems to be some fundamental conflict between Prototype and Moo Tools. If I include both libraries some of the moo.fx effects stop working properly.
I may just stick to using Slimbox for the majority of my site and Lightbox/Slickr just for the photo albums.
Regards
Steve
p.s. Have you considered using a lighter-weight library instead of Prototype? It’s a pretty hefty download, especially when combined with the full LightBox.
Since I am stuck with Prototype if I use Slickr, I’ve tried various JS compression approaches to get quicker page loads (compressing each JS file, using php_speedy, etc.) but they all end up breaking Lightbox.
:-/
Hi again
FYI… After a bit of investigation and experimentation, I’ve discovered that the LightBox2/Prototype/Scriptaculous distribution that you provide can be chopped down quite considerably for basic use, and use with Slickr.
As offered LightBox2/Prototype/Scriptaculous comes in at download of over 200K when LightBox is used with a page.
So…
1. The library files slider.js, builder.js, controls.js, dragdrop.js are not required and references to them can be removed from scriptaculous.js
2. The resulting four files effects.js, lightbox.js, prototype.js, scriptaculous.js can then be compressed using YUI compressor to reduce the size by around 40%
The result is a download requirement of just 84K – That’s a huge time saving if your site audience has slow Internet connections. (Slickr and LightBox2 functionality is not affected in any way by this.)
Best regards
Steve C.
Is there a way to call all the photos without having to put the photos in sets?
For example, could there be a default gallery called ‘Everything’ that would call all the photos in one’s flickr account?
This would be quite useful is someone is not active in maintaining sets for their photos on flickr.com.
I forgot what I have to change in one of the slickr files to have it display flickr pictures on full size. Do you happen to know Rupert? You once told me I think but I can’t remember.
I would like to have it display the flickr images on full size because I already resize them when uploading to flickr.
Are there besides this, any other options in sizes?
Thanks!
Ummmm, I know this is probably a super simple question, but how do I change the title of the widget?
Tried the plug-in, and all was ok until I clicked the link to view my photoset. then I get:

Betwixt: IIRC, line 463 of slickr.php is the line to look at (from memory). change Medium to Large
Charles: open Slickr_widget.php and edit the middle portion
Jason: Private photos are not displayed on your gallery, only public ones. If your set is empty, or only has private photos, you get the foreach error.
Scott: That functionality is not planned for Slickr. It’s possible, though.
Hi!
Been getting this error when trying to set up the slickr-plugin.

Not sure whats wrong tho. Tried using the Default themes and think I’ve opened all accesses I can find :)
You know what might be wrong?

You installed it wrong?
I love what this can do, but I seem to be having a problem. The Widget works fantastic, but when I try to use the gallery, none of the images will load in the lightbox. Any ideas?
Slickr: 0.6.3
Lightbox 2.2.5.0
hi rupert,
the slickr widget works great. but i cant manage to show the gallery in wordpress. i put the path /photos/ but i get a 404 – page not found. i read millions of postings all over the web, but found no solutions. can you help please?
thx!
Dub: Link?
Laslo: laslo: even if 404 errors are returned, Word[ress should be returning the 404 page. Get your webserver set up so that WordPress handles errors… see stimuli.ca/snarf/ as an example 404 page.
When I try to link Slickr to my Flickr account, I get this:
” Oops! Flickr can’t find a valid callback URL.”
I know someone’s already posted about this, but nobody’s offered any solution, and nobody else seems to be having this issue so I can’t find help anywhere. Does anyone know how to fix it?
I have a problem with the Slickr-Gallery and Akismet. If Akismet is activated, the Settings -> Slickr Gallery page ends with the Gallery Settings line. No options or cached photos are displayed. If Akismet is deactivated everything works fine. So currently I had to deactivate Akismet which ends up with a full Mail-Inbox.
The problem exists since I updated to WP 2.3.3, Slickr 0.6.3, Lightbox 2.5 and Akismet 2.1.3 (actually 2.1.4).
Is there any known incompatibility?
No; I’m running both on this site (and others).
That’s weird. Maybe I have to clean up my database and re-upload everything. I think I’ll do that with the next release of WP.
Has anyone noticed the font or the text of the album name looks fine as the page loads, but when the photos thumbs show up the text gets funky, like it trys to add a border to it. This seems to be isolated to Internet Explorer.
Any thoughts?
hi rupert. i commented way back saying your plugin rocked. i think it was at version 4 back then. it still does!
im actually totally satisfied with your plugin and after kludging around for a few hours on the view.php and slickr.css files i made a custom template and i am really happy with it.
back when i was using your plugin the first time, i had a friend of mine slurp the thumbnail of the flickr set and show it under the set name. i forgot exactly where he pulled that and where he inserted the line into the loop.
i was just wondering if this is slated to be an option for a future release. after he performs it i can send you the modified code if you like. additionally i had the description information displaying below the image.
ill close on another positive note and say thanks a lot for your work!
I’m having the same problem getting a 404 page in IE7 but fine in Firefox. Any solutions?
Thanks!
Danoh: Never noticed. IE 6 or 7?
Samir: thanks for the kind words. Yes, that feature is planned, although development is on hiatus at the moment.
Dawn: Is the 404 a wordpress 404 or a webserver 404?
In other words, does it look like http://www.stimuli.ca/snarf/ or like a plain page that says “404″?
Just to help those who might be wondering why it doesn’t seem to work, it’s required that your photos are in an album (or ‘set’) on flickr as otherwise it seems not to work. I din’t see this anywhere in the installation instructions and it’s takern me a while to work out why it wan’t working.
I Hope this helps somebody!
WordPress 2.5 users: You will have to create the page the gallery is on. My gallery is at stimuli.ca/gallery/, so I had to create a blank page called “gallery” or else the gallery would not load.
hi,
Thanks for your excellent plugin, I like it very much!
I have upgraded a test site to wordpress 2.5.
The exisiting posts and pages with Slickr Flickr images still work ok, but if I want to create a new post or page, I do not see the images from Flickr in order to add them. Am I overlooking something?
Thanks for your help :)
Hi there, also thanks for the plugin!
After upgrading I have the same problem as Eric van der Knaap. Existing posts with pictures load ok, but creating new pages with images from flickr doesn’t work. It doesn’t show the Flickr stream when creating a new post or page.
Thanks in advance for your help
I’m in the same boat with WP 2.5.
Our ‘Photos” tab in the post editor has disappeared.
Anyone find out an easy way to access the flickr stream from the post page?
Many thanks, I really like this plugin…
Also, slickr can’t seem to display pictures in the largest size.
I tried changing a few lines (like you said earlier) in the slickr.php to “large”, that doens’t help when I create new posts and want the thumbnails I insert to call the largest pic version from flickr….
Hope to hear from you!
Regards.
Hi,
Loving the plugin thanks a bunch. Does anyone know how to change the Flickr account that it points to. Pointed to one for testing and a client has one with real photos to show, but i can’t get it to stop pointing to the one for test.
Thanks,
~bob
The plugin is great! I’m having the same problems with WP 2.5 though – the photos tab is missing. Until you get a chance to test it in 2.5, the work around I’ve been using is to use the code format from a previous post – add class=”slickr-post” and rel=”lightbox[post]” to thumbnail images
Hi Rupert,
I’ve been testing out the slickr-gallery plugin i found on your site for some time now. I’ve even created a custom template and all of that, it’s a really great plugin!
However, I’ve encountered a bit of a glitch and I was losing my mind going through all of the comments on your site trying to see if anyone had a similar issue. For some reason now, (today after I added a bunch of new sets to my flickr account and cleared the slickr cache) all of the albums come up in doubles.
You can see this here: http://pccm.nelgon.com/photogallery
Any Ideas on why this would be happening?
Thank you very much!
how can i add flickr images when writing a new post/page in wordpress 2.5?
thanks a lot!
Many thanks, this is great plugin! Any outlook maybe on an update so that it is again fully functional with 2.5?
I was hoping this plugin would work for me, but I never could get the gallery page to display anything, and after the first setup, the cache would never update with new images that I posted to Flickr. It’s too bad, this seemed like it had some great features.
After upgrading to 2.5 the photos page appears white. But checking the source code i can see the links to the albuns. You can check it at http://www.franciscoroque.com/photos/
Fantastic plug-in!
One feature request/ comment:
If you haven’t yet, look into Lightview compatibility. LV is a Scriptaculous-based lightbox-like platform which accomplishes the same thing, but nicer and more versatile. I’m going to get working on using it instead of Lightbox in Slickr; I’ll let you know what I figure-out.
cheers,
I’m using WP2.2.1, Slickr 0.6.3, Slickr Widget 1.0 and Lightbox 2 2.5.0
I got this message when I clicked the ‘Photo’ tab to insert photos from my Flickr into the post: ‘Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mb_detect_encoding() in /home/content/b/y/n/byndeegoh/html/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/templates/admin-photos-tab.php on line 215′
Please help!
will you be integrating the new ‘video’ features of flickr into your superb plugin?
Cheers
S
simon: I’d love to… at some point. Too busy at the moment!
DiEsE/
Andrew: Sounds like a dicey web host… try a standard, linux-based web host for fewer headaches. I use Bluehost, but there are many, much cheaper solutions out there as well.
Evan: I’ll look into it for a future release.
Dirk/Arne/Guera/Betwixt/Eric: I know, I know… ;) I get to it ASAP, which likely won’t be soon :(
For all of you, who have this IE 404 error.
I had it too and it really drove me nuts … but then I’ve read the hint for WP 2.5 to create a blank page with the same name of the gallery.
Well, I tried it with WP 2.3 and it works too! I’ve tested it with IE and FF and both show the gallery now.
I had another problem with the album selection/deselection in the admin section. After investigation I could pin it down to the id compare in the admin section of the php code. I had one album always showing up as selected, although I deselected it several times.
The thing was that I had two albums which had nearly the same id (difference was in the last cipher of the id). I had to use the strcmp function instead of the plain ‘==’ operator in order to get it work.
Besides that the plugin rocks ;)
Thanks
@Rupert
Thanks for your attention! I’m still working on getting Lightview interoperability for myself though. I’m having trouble in locating Slickr’s actual dependance on Ligthbox.
There is the function in slickr.php which prints the thumbnail’s tags (which obviously needs to be adjusted to suit lightview), but changing this shouldn’t prevent the application from initializing on a whole, which it does.
Can you point out what Slickr needs from Lightbox to load? Or where the [Lightbox_exists = true] check might be? That way I can see to it and then just change the print statements.
Let me say again what a great extension it is that you’ve created!
Evan
//update
I just came across the ‘initLightbox()’ call in slickr.js
Can you elaborate more on what this does (lightbox code is compressed)
Cheers,
Evan
//final update
Sorry to be doing this to your comments Rupert. I managed to remove the above-mentioned call which was causing me problems. I can get the album to display successfully with functional thumbs.
I’ll not write more here about getting lightview to pick up the thumbs. If you or anyone reading is interested I’ll have a post about it on my website http://www.evansharp.ca
Evan
ali: awesome, thanks for the heads up!
Evan: well done, you made sense of my spaghetti javascripts!
I would too like to see the slickr plugin updated to work with 2.5 properly.
It is a great plugin and have temporarly had to use the WP-media flickr plug in until its fixed (Photo button)
lets hope it’s soon :)
Hi,
I just came across your plugin today, and so far I love it.
However I have a couple of problems.
Firstly, the lightbox doesn’t seem to get the image size passed to it, so 250px is used, as that is what is defined in the lightbox css, but this is overridden with an inline css value, but on this page that isn’t working: http://thrownultimate.com/photos/
but it works fine on my homepage:
http://thrownultimate.com/
My next ‘problem’ isn’t really a problem, but I want to be able to pull in photos from a pool, is this possible? I’m going to have a dig in the code, but I’m sure you’d be able to tell me!
Thanks a lot,
Alex
I am using Lightbox v2.03.2,
WordPress v2.5
and your latest plugin release.
For those of you having the problem with authentication where Flickr reports:
“Oops! Flickr can’t find a valid callback URL. ”
I may have a solution for you. I was having the same problem, and it turns out it was a result of the PEAR library not doing its job with HTTP Requests…I’m not sure if the web server admins put some restriction on it or if I did something, but regardless, it was the cause of my problem.
Luckily, Slickr includes a Curl implementation of a request class that doesn’t seem to be hooked used at the moment. I figure it was an older class used before integrating the PEAR class, or maybe a backup that never got plugged in. You can use this implementation to fix the problem (hopefully).
You will need to edit 1 file, “lib.flickr.php”. On line 29, insert:
“require_once(dirname(__FILE__).”/curl.php”);”
And on line 60, insert:
“$this->req =& new SlickrCurl();”
That will override the PEAR HTTP Request object with the Curl one, and it should work. This is a hack for now, but hopefully the next release of Slickr will include this as a fallback mechanism if PEAR fails.
Hi,
Great plugin! Everything was working fine until suddenly the plugin stopped displaying correctly in firefox. The error is a javascript error that endlessly repeats for prototype.js “too much recursion” line 1914.
Any thoughts?
Having the same problem as hal 9000. i simply dont see the upload option anymore when i am posting or editing stuff … how am i able to choose pics on flickr now for my posts?
Hi,
I was so exited when I found your plugin but, it won’t work…
After installing and activating the plugin, I get an error when going to the settings… nothing shows up… Here’s the error :
Warning: phpflickr(HTTP/Request.php) [function.phpflickr]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /mnt/130/sda/4/c/chan2k1/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/phpFlickr/phpFlickr.php on line 90

Can you help me on this please… I’d love to be able to use your plugin ! I’m on WP 2.5
Thanks for your help.
Rupert:
I’ve finished making Slickr work with Lightview. See my post on the subject.
Let me know what you think.
Evan
Hey everyone. Can anyone give me a point in the right direction as to how to make the ajax text look cleaner in IE? It looks great in Firefox, but cloudy and pixelated in IE.

Thanks, Adam
*** FIX FOR FLICKR SLIDESHOW ***
I’m using this plugin (which is awesome btw!) and I noticed it was still using the old Flickr slideshow, which caused some of my photos to look stretched and pixelated. I’ve hacked a fix for the javascript window.open function that opens the Flickr slideshow to now call the newly release Flickr slideshow. I’m sharing below. Keep in mind, I’m not a programmer, so backup first and do this at your own risk. Having that said, it works for me. *tested in FF 2*
STEP 1: find file: /plugins/slickrgallery/slickr/templates/header.php
STEP 2: change lines (approx) 7-15 from this:
/* for Flickr flash slideshows */
function openSlideShow(id) {
var url = \”http://flickr.com/slideShow/index.gne?set_id=\” id
var w = window.open(url, ‘_blank’, ‘fullscreen’);
if (w) w.focus()
return false;
}
to this:
/* for Flickr flash slideshows */
function openSlideShow(id, gid) {
username = \”YOUR_FLICKR_USERNAME\”;
var url = \”http://flickr.com/\”;
if(!isNaN(parseInt(gid,10))) { url = ‘groups/pool/’ gid ‘/show’; }
else if(!isNaN(parseInt(id,10))) { url = ‘photos/’ username ‘/sets/’ id ‘/show’; }
else { return true; }
var show = window.open(url, \”sialspartners_flickr_show\”, \”fullscreen,scrollbars=no, status=no, resizable=yes\”);
try { show.focus(); } catch(err) {}
return false;
}
STEP 3: Change “YOUR_FLICKR_USERNAME” above to your flickr username.
Hope this helps others!!!
I’m not getting a “photos” tab on write posts in wordpress 2.5, any ideas?
Still no fix as yet to the ‘photos tab’ error in WP 2.5
I have however found a work around, albeit a bit clumsy!
You have to simply cut n paste code from a working (old) slickr gallery post and edit the image URL.
The plug in works fine – just doesn’t have the nice interface
also I like the way your comments are laid out… any chance of letting us in on the theme si I can mod mine comments PHP files and css :)
hal9000 – Could you copy/paste that code here please? I never had any previous posts before WP 2.5 so I don’t know what this code is. Thanks1
Also, I’d like to know if it’s possible to insert just one set into a certain post. For example, if I get a new Puppy, and I take a bunch of pics and upload them to Flickr in my “Puppy” set, I’d like to go to the “New Puppy” post in WP and add just that set. Is this possible?
freaky I posted pics of my new puppy on my site :)
I don’t know if this code will be allowed but here goes
nope that didn’t work as expected.
text file here http://human01d.com/slickrcode.txt
Hi,
the slickr plugin is working great for me, thank you very much!
Now I am trying to automaticaly activate my first flickr album then the user opens the gallery page.
The users of my blog couldn’t figure out that they should click links too the left and :)
Could we do this by emulating onClick() event on the sets links in the gallery page?
I am new to AJAX and PHP, and any help will be apriciated!
hi rupert..
great plugin! i like it.
now im putting it on localhost wordpress2.5.
everything works fine except i can’t find Photos tab as you say “..To insert photos into your posts, just click the Photos tab while editing a post and select a thumbnail…”.
where’s it at? can someone provide screenshot please..
thanks. keep up your good work. :P

Hey mate,
Brilliant app, I know that you don’t really offer support but I figured if you can’t help, one of the other users might be able to?
I’m just trying to install slickr on the latest version of WordPress, I have Lightbox installed and activated too.
When I go to “Retrieve Flickr Permissions” I get the following error from Flickr
“Oops! Flickr can’t find a valid callback URL.”
Any ideas? Mimz did you manage to find out/sort it out?
Thankyou all,

I get those two errors when opening a set. All my pictures in my test set are public and work just fine with widget but not in album. What am I doing wrong?
Got this thing working just this evening. Great plug-in…unfortunately I can’t find the photos-tab just like others have mentioned. I’m still trying to figure out why, but I’ll subscribe to this threat and cross my fingers.
I love this plugin … but .. theres always a but, ever since I upgraded to Flickr Pro it has stopped working on all of my sites. I am getting the same errors as “Jyrki” above and a couple more.
Is there something that the Pro version did? Slickr doesn’t seem to be pulling the stream anymore. The latest photos are not showing up in the back end Settings of Slickr in WordPress.
Figured it out … there is a permissions setting in Flickr that needs to be changed in Flickr for the files to load! Sorry to bugg ya!!
Ernei — do you mind sharing your changes??
Hi, I’ve really enjoyed your plugin, but in the midst of completely revamping my site, I’ve run into the same problem as many others here, and reading through the comments did not see a solution or fix yet. I cannot remove flickr-cache files from the server as somehow when they were created by the plugin, they were created in such a way that I cannot get high enough permissions to remove them either through ftp or even through a file browser in cpanel. I am hoping to use slickr for the new site, but no way am I going to install a plugin that creates files I’ve no way to remove from the server. In my site’s first incarnation, the plugin and the widget were both up and running just fine.
Can we have some help or at least some feedback from the authors ? Some of us have posted errors; at least can you let us know if you can help up or not.
Is there an new version in development ?
Michael: Get wordpress to use another page as an ‘index’ page. It is an option buried in wordpress somewhere.
Chan: The photos tab is a known issue; wordpress 2.5 changes a lot in terms of admin UI. I’ll look into it in my spare time, of which there is very little.
Brian: I’ve yet to figure out a workaround to permissions issues; Apache/WordPress created the files, so why they do not have permission to delete them on some servers is a complete mystery to me.
An update will come, but I’m teaching 12 hours a day and am often flown out of town for weekend business trips so no guarantees. I’ve been neglecting Slickr, I know… I just haven’t felt the urge to code for a while. It is open source, and any code contributions will be graciously considered for inclusion.
Ernie: I love you for figuring that out! That’s going in the FAQ immediately. Sam: Read Ernie’s response.
Jyrki: I can’t imagine what’s going on there. Foreach errors are a result of an empty array, meaning no photographs to show.
Ivo: Never heard of that error before mate, sorry.
Hi Rupurt.
First, thanks for the plugin.
I have a strange problem with my Slickr install.
In IE7, the gallary page says “loading” (http://blog.sobes.co.uk/gallery/) but no pictures appear. When you click on a album, a html page is generated for the photo’s but has no formating.
In Firefox 2.0 (Mac), the gallery page just shows loading, and none of the albums appear on the side bar.
Any idea’s?
Works like a charm if you don’t use Flick Manager on WordPress 2-6 bleeding :)
Thanks for this plugin :)

Hi – I updated the lightbox 2 plug in to 2.7.2 and now when I access slickr gallery I get a spinning wheel and it does not load.I am running WP 2.5. Any suggestions.
hey gang. having trouble with my slickr gallery.
it looks great and works fine on my site… until you try to view any gallery after #4.
i have tried everything i can think of and no luck. getting some sort of server error.
http://www.trevorcaesar.com
click on still movements and then try opening any gallery after yosemite
email me with any suggestions please. tcaesar [at] gmail [dot] com
thanks!
looks like i just changed some settings in the slickr.php file that messed with it. got it back up and functional again. email me if anyone has any similar issues and ill help you with a fix.
Hello, This is the most elegant flickr plugin i have come across. Excellent work! A couple others have requested, I’m wondering if there is any way to display the photo’s description that I have entered in Flickr as the caption in the lightbox popup. (Much like the title is taken from the Flickr photo title) This will be a lifesaver if anyone has figured this out!!
Hey Rupert, I wish you manage to fix the premalink limitation in the next release of Slickr. It’s a great limitation. Can’t it be any premalink we define to make the plugin in work?
I am also seeing the foreach empty array problem but, oddly, only for certain albums.
I can make them display by setting the Flickr permissions to anyone but I’m not I’m understanding why it has to be that way for only particular albums
I also seem to get the “cannot clear cache” message even though the directory is writable
So other than those couple of curiosities, this really is an excellent plugin and has really added a whole new dimension to the family blog
Thanks Rupert !
I would like to request the ability to have the cache auto-expire after a couple of hours, or once every hour.
Is this possible?
I am having a few problems. First, i do liave Lighbox 2 installed.
First, I am not getting the photo insert option on a new post.
Second, in Firefox, I am just getting the “Loading Flickr Content” and the rotating image. In IE my album list does show up but when I click on the album, it takes me to a generic unfromatted html page with my picture thumbnails but no ajax or any style. I hope you can help me.
http://www.jeffbaynham.com/photos/
Ah, figured out part of it. The “Share This” plugin doesn’t agree with the Photo page, so I just turned it off for that page.
I am still not getting the insert picture option when editing a page/post.
Apparently the ShareThis is an issue others are having too… and I ended up having to deactivate it totally. :(
http://forums.sharethis.com/topic/plugin-conflict
works great, just a small problem with changing the image size from medium to large – when I input the “Large” size, lightbox loads my original size (so my picture is ginormous). Wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?
I just install slickr I have a problem, My thumbnail are not showing..
http://iamtibo.com/portfolio/photo/
If anyone got an idea..!!
I inspected everything with firebug and can’t find any errors.
I was thinking that my host could be the problem.
Thanks
Private Pictures:
How can i enable private pictures? I saw many options like “privacy_filter”, “hideprivate” in the code and in the database. I’ve set them in all conscience and now i’m able to cache private pictures and show them in the widget.
In the gallery there’s still the “Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in” error… I would be really happy if i can use your gallery, but up to now it is unfortunately not usable for me…
I have an own Access-Control to the gallery, which is a lot more better than the Flickr-opportunities. That’s why i like to hide them to the public on flickr but show them in the gallery.
Thanks for support,
Markus
Hi,
Just FYI, as mentioned above,
slickr conflicts with the “share this” plug in.
I have at this point disabled “share this” as I love your plug in
But the conflict is a shame.
is there a way to “reverse” the order of photos.
When I have a big album, I would prefer to have recent photos appear first not the oldest.
Just asking and thanks
Hi,
_Awesome_ plugin. Works fine.
I’ve been wrestling with the css for a while though, trying to get the album list horisontal instead of vertical in a nice way. I am kind of a beginner at css, but am steadily learning…
Could anyone give a tip as to how to get the menu horisontal-oriented the easiest way?
Im sorry for double posting.
I just wanted to know, how exactly do you edit the php to make slickr show the “large” version of the photo on flickr, when you click a thumbnail?
I’ve been trial-and-error’ing now for hours (emphasis on error), and can’t seem to get it!
Hello !
My question…
Is there a way to use a search box to find the pictures?
When you have a lot of galleries, it becomes complicated to find photos…
Thanks !
hi, great plugin!
just 2 things:
1. how could I change the welcome text “Select a Flickr album to view its photos”? I read this solution
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/113766?replies=6
but that changes the title of the Albums not that Flickr welcome message.
2. Related to the previous: Would it be too difficult to make one album to appear as default? That way there will no need for the “Select a Flickr album to view its photos” message.
I’m kinda in a hurry, so I hope you can help me out, or release a new version very soon =P
This plugin is great. However, i just installed an automatic upgrade (7/10/08) and now it doesn’t work. I get an error in line 44.
Any thoughts?
Here is the exact error i am getting:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class phpflickr in /home/jonluciano/domains/jonluciano.com/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/phpFlickr/phpFlickr.php on line 44
Help!
Hi, definitely a great plugin, I love it!
I have a quick question about output image resizing, but not in the standard Medium to Large way. In both the sidebar widget and the main gallery plugin, there is code that takes the standard square thumbnail from Flickr (75px by 75px) resizes it by some percentage.
I was wondering how to resize the full images when the thumbnails are clicked on? I don’t mean changing from Medium to Large Flickr standard sizes, I know how to do that and it works great. What I mean is that I want the lightbox images to be a size in between 500px wide and 1024px wide, specifically 600px wide. This means the multiplier would be 1.2 on Medium, or 0.6 on Large, but when I try to alter the image size in the exact same way as the thumbnails, it doesn’t change anything. Any ideas?
To illustrate what I’m talking about, here’s the code I’m trying to use:
echo(“
“);
So basically I just copied the code that downsizes the thumbnails to 75% of the Flickr size to the full-lightboxed image, but it still just shows up as the standard Large size, at 1024px.
I’m using Firefox 3, WordPress 2.3.2, and Slickr 0.6.3. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Sorry, the code from the widget didn’t show up for some reason, so I’ll try it without the quotation marks:
// These lines generate our output
ECHO START:
ECHO END
I got 404 page not found when i access the gallery page.
did someone have any clue?
Did WP2.6 break Slickr? It doesn’t even show up in my plugins anymore.
Sygyzy: I just upgraded to WP2.6 and my slickr gallery is still working fine, so I don’t think it’s the upgrade that did it.
Rupert -
Thanks so much for the plugin. I have gone through some challenges but have gotten it to work for the most part. The last of my issues (I hope) is the following:
Everything loads correctly when the page pulls up (although I get an internal server error about every other time I hit the page, not sure whats going on there) but when I click on the album (I currently only have 1) I get the following:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/content/b/i/s/bishop10373/html/photos/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr.php on line 234
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/content/b/i/s/bishop10373/html/photos/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr.php on line 385
I have seen this in previous post but have not seen a resolution to this yet. My album on Flickr has 9 photos in it and all of my photos are public. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is, I believe, the best solution for a photo galley if wanting to use WordPress as the foundation.
Here is the link to the page for my photos:
http://canddbishop.com/photos/pics
Fantastic plugin!
Is there a way to make the gallery show an album automatically on the gallery page. Currently when you view the gallery page, you have to click a gallery for it to display something leaving a big empty space upon arrival.
Thank you kindly
Is there a way the to tell when the photos page is loaded? Something along the lines of is_single() or is_paged(). I’m trying to add a Photos link on a menu bar that changes the class name depending on the page. Thanks!
I dont think this is a very clean solution but i was able to acheive a dynamic menu by using
if ($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] == ‘/photos/’)
Rupert: Great plugin! It worked perfectly straight away. Thanks. I look forward to any updates, whenever they may come. In the meantime, I’ll try one or two hacks (first up, a preview thumbnail for each set)
drew: there’s a page on conditional tags at http://codex.wordpress.org/Conditional_Tags. I think the code you need is
is_page(‘photos’)
nb – page not paged. That works for me, I’m running WordPress 2.5 and created a page called ‘photos’ for slickr to work.
Laslo:
1. the code to change is in the slickr.js file in the slickr directory. At the bottom of the file, in the function showslickrmenufirsttime(), find
‘Select a Flickr album to view its photos.’;
Simply change the text between the tags to whatever you want, for example:
=’Your New Text Goes Here!’;
2. I would like to display an album by default too, but I haven’t tried to do this yet. I think that the same function showslickrmenufirsttime() in the slickr.js file is a good starting point. I’ll post back here if I have any success.
Oops, I forgot that html tags would be stripped from my comment above, so it doesn’t say what I typed.
Find the function showslickrmenufirsttime() in the slickr.js file, then change the text between the paragraph tags.
I’m currently using the Slickr and Lightbox plug ins on my wordpress site and I’ve managed to get everything working like I want it…well at least the display of the images.
Two questions:
1. Is there a way to modify the code so that it also pulls the photos from flickr that don’t belong on a set?
2. How can I make it so there is a link on the lightbox popup that when clicked takes the person to the flickr site to display the photo?
A great feature would be to have a way to automatically select a set to display when the slickr plugin is loaded on the site…see that a couple of people have requested this :)
Hi folks, Im having lots of trouble get this perfectly great plugin to work.
My Page: http://www.alexinaustralia.de/photos. The plungin prints out the Albums but does not show its content! I think its the same Problem like Jonathan Agyeman Jones had.
Would you be so kind to help me? In Firefox 3 there is no Photo either :(
i just upgraded to the new version of slickr and then when i have i receive this error when checking the gallery on my site..

Hi Rupert I keep getting all sorts of errors, I thought it would make sense to start with this one first.
Clearing the cache failed. Manually delete the ‘flickr-cache’ directory.
Can you help please
Thanks
Gareth
Hey. if I don’t have any albums, does it show any photos?
can someone help me?

Rupert, awesome work, a great plugin. I’m still facing the dastardly error 404 issue.
I’m on WP 2.6.1 but the error keeps coming I’ve created a blank file (photos) in the root directory but this doesn’t seem to help. Am I being an idiot?
If anyone can help i’d be rgateful, otherwise I’ll keep plugging away and see if I can find the problems.
Hi,
really want to use the slickr plugin. I’ve seen it in action and it’s very impressive. I’m trying to make a site for my bro (an artist) but keep getting this error when i try and activate ‘slickr’ through settings in wordpress 2.6.1
“Warning: mkdir() [function.mkdir]: Permission denied in /mounted-storage/home78c/sub009/sc44068-ATOZ/www.cultoftheamature.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr.php on line 39

This plugin requires that the directory http://www.cultoftheamature.co.uk/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/flickr-cache/ be writable by the web server.
Please contact your server administrator to ensure the proper permissions are set for this directory.”
My hosting is with servage and i’ve been bugging them for days now, asking for a solution. Between us we’ve tried everything on the server side. But i still get the error.
I’m all out of ideas.
help me obi one kenobi… your my only hope.
Hi, I’ve been debugging for a couple of weeks and I still can’t figure out how to solve it.
Your script works fine at all points except when I have a lot of pictures and albums, the paginated pages doesn’t load. Like when I click on “more photos” in my album, it keeps loading the first page instead of the next page.
The button has the following link “http://deenyusoff.antblogz.com/gallery/album/72157606591655569/Tioman_Trip_2008.html?page=2″ but it simply doesn’t load the 2nd page of photos.
The only way for me to show all my photos now is to increase the number of pictures per page to more than the max pictures I have in each set.
What is missing in my server? How can I fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Hi, I had this same error:
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/23868/domains/testblog.versusdsn.com/html/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr.php on line 234 etc . . .
and it disappeared once I removed digits from the beginning of the titles of my flickr images. Maybe that’s helpful to someone.
Right now I’m having this issue where the gallery insists upon drawing the header from my blog header rather than the one I established for it which makes it look like you’re on my blog page when you’re really on my gallery page.
My URL is: livingconstellation.com. I have special header_xxx.php’s and xxx.phps for all of my pages and I’ve set up one for the gallery, but it doesn’t seem to be working. I love everything about my site, but this imperfection’s been bugging me for days. I’ve checked all the codes I could think of, and I can’t come up with a solution.
Any help would be incredibly appreciated.
Thanks,
dave
I am currently using the Slickr Gallery plugin, (works great!) and I would like for my Editors to be able to edit the settings in this plugin, namely to refresh and select the albums which are created.
I know that some plugins contain settings that the different level users (Authors, Editors, etc.) can adjust. Unfortunately, Slickr Gallery is not one of them.
Does anyone know how I might go about editing the plugin to allow my Editors to adjust the settings?
Here is the exact error i am getting:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class phpflickr in /home/m16994/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/phpFlickr/phpFlickr.php on line 44
Help!
I work since 15 months with slickr in wordpress 2.3 (everything works fine!) and recently I upgraded to wordpress 2.6.1. Slickr still works in my photo-pages, but none of the slickr phototags are showing up in de media gallery when I write a post. I was used to add thumnails of pics out of this slicr gallery immediately in a post, but I don’t have access anymore now.
Is there any solution for this problem? Slickr is such a great plugin and I would like to use it again in my posts!
@Chris: There is a WP plugin called Role Manager out there somewhere which allows greater customization of user levels to grant access to different areas of the admin panel… not sure if it will fit with slickr options but check it out.
Rupert, since you seem to have not posted in the comments for quite some time I assume you are off gallivanting in India… my jealousy is strong! Cant wait to see some of the solutions offered to issues others have posted… perhaps we should set up a wiki or forum.
I am setting up a WordPress site and, having tested many gallery plugins locally, Slickr seems the best for my needs and the coolest looking. Apart from figuring out how to include it without messing up my themes (I’ll work that one out myself) there is one other thing. And I know a few people have already asked this, but there has been no answer so far – the ‘icing on the cake’ would be if each photo’s description could appear as well as the file name. Is there a piece of code one could insert, and where would one insert it? When there is a need to describe a photo, it would seem to be a vital addition to this plugin, if indeed any further development is planned? Thank you.
hello Rupert,
I have been successfully using your plugin on my wpmu installation but after recent upgrades to wpmu and different plugins, it doesn’t work anymore. firebug gives a script error. you can have a look here:
http://sasha.zice.ro/photo/
error: Class.create is not a function
http://sasha.zice.ro/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/slickr.js
Line 4
can you give me any help to solve this?
Hi!
I’m having problems with the fact that every time I start viewing my photos in LightView photos at first start to show but sooner or later the LightView hangs and doesn’t show any more photos.
Is there a way I could fix this?
I’m using WordPress version 2.6.2., Slickr Gallery 0.6.3, I have everything installed on my server …
I tried from different computer always the same …
You can try on my blog: http://www.verona69.net for your self!
Thanks again!
:)
Great plugin. Top marks.
Just to weigh in on the issue, I too am experiencing the conflict with ShareThis. It looks like making a choice between one or the other when it comes to these two plugins.
sorry guys, my problem also came from using the sharethis plugin :-( solved the problem by removing that plugin.
Wild guess, but maybe check with the ShareThis author that (s)he uses the wp_enqueue_scripts() facility, to prevent script clobbering.
FYI – if you want to add the title of the gallery above the full display of gallery thumbnails after clicking on the left-hand menu, add the following line to slickr.php on line 392:
echo “”.htmlspecialchars($album['title'], ENT_QUOTES).”";
uhg. of course, it stripped out the html.
doom on me.
Hi Rupert
I’m new with wordpress..I’ve found your plugin from my friend blog and really like it.
I’ve installed lightbox and slickr..install libcurl library and follow your instructions step by step..but still have problems..this was the error code that I’ve got..

HELP! Ive installed your plugin and it works to a point. At first it would just hang on loading and i corrected this by removing the sidebar/footer on the default veiw.php and now it loads the albums on the left but none of the pics show up. I can mouse over them and click them and they open up in a new window. How do i fix this?
Cheers
fixed it, for some reason the footer in my theme stopped it from working lol. Odd..
Quick question – i had the plugin installed and working fine, very nice. then i changed my sites domain name, and the viewer stopped displaying… according to the settings it’s still finding my flickr sets, and everything is fine, but for some reason it doesn’t show up on my page… thoughts? i’m guessing it’s a simple fix but i can’t figure it out. i tryed uninstalling it and reinstalling it.
the link or dictionary of the slickr… check that and make sure it is corresponding to your new domain name.
Thanks, greate plugin. Is it possible to link to larger versions of pictures on Flickr?
Hi, Thanks for a great plugin. I’m working in my blog but I have a weird behavior. Some sets are repeated, I mean it appears twice with same content on both links to the set. is this a bug of slickr? anyone with same behavior? Thanks in advance and sorry about my english
sorry for two comments but I forget to comment other thing. Some of my sets contains only private photos but the set is shown in the list of sets. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks again
I’m having the same issue as PA. When trying to insert into a post, I click the picture tab (which has an broken image) then I get:
Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, ‘SlickrPlugin::upload_tabs_scripts’ was given in /home/ogre/public_html/mommysplate.com/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 311

The initial images come up but when I try to search by tag and hit refresh it goes to the main dashboard page.
Thanks.
Hi Rupert,
I spend 6 weeks in India for a documentary project, and I have loads of pictures that I would like to post in my blog. Unfortunately I don’t get the thumbnails from my uploaded flickr albums anymore in the slickr-gallery of my wordpress.
I wrote you the mail below on 09.20.08, but till now no one came up with a solution. Are there other users experiencing the same problem?
I work since 15 months with slickr in wordpress 2.3 (everything works fine!) and recently I upgraded to wordpress 2.6.1. Slickr still works in my photo-pages, but none of the slickr phototags are showing up in de media gallery when I write a post. Is there any solution for this problem? Slickr is such a great plugin and I would like to use it again in my posts!
Rupert – Thanks for this great plugin! It’s by far the best Flickr plugin I’ve found.
I was having a problem with a foreach error on the gallery page if the photo set had no public images. Seems several others have experienced various probs related to non-public photos.
I’ve created a fix to count the number of public photos in a set. If there are none, it won’t display the set in the list of Flickr Albums. It also updates the photo count for each set to only reflect public photos.
If anyone is interested in having this code, leave a comment on my blog at joshmoody.com and I’ll send it to you.
Rupert, if you’d like to incorporate my fix into the base project, let me know.
Thanks again for this great plugin!
Josh
Rupert – fantastic plugin, this gallery has amazing functionality and looks great, and it was very easy to setup.
I am having a problem with Slickr interacting with my theme, and I haven’t seen anybody else encounter this problem yet. My gallery can be found at http://www.safiandshmuel.com/pictures/
For some reason it brings the sidebar elements into the main content section. I have tried every Slickr Gallery Theme as well. I don’t know if you have seen this before and if you can help just by looking at it, but you know this better than anybody and I figured I would post up in the meantime while I work on the CSS.
Thanks,
Brent
It’s been a while since there has been any development for this plugin…I think it’s great and it would be great if there was an update that would fix a couple of bugs or add new features ;)
Hi.
Can I/you implement the Shadowbox JS plugin instead/in additional of Lightbox 2?
Shadowbox JS = http://sivel.net/2008/09/shadowbox-js-wordpress-plugin-v202-released/
Best regards

We’re a nonprofit that benefits children in Vietnam. We’re using your plugin and we absolutely love it.
There is a problem in IE6 though. The fonts render very poorly…..it looks as though every word has a black border around it. Is there are fix for this?
Here’s a screenshot of what the fonts look like in IE6:
http://img257.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ie6kl9.jpg
The site listed has about 14 “custom” flickr badges in it.
I would like to use your plugin so people can open the images directly on the page without going to flickr.
This group has about 133 members who have all put their photos into the pool.
http://www.flickr.com/groups/wanderung/pool/
Is it possible to make your plugin work with a pool of flickr photos, and so that all flickr images get lightboxed?
We do encourage people to sign up with flickr and share photos that way, rather than creating a whole seperate system on our website.
Loved the plugin. I was using the plugin successfully for quite sometime. I upgraded to WP2.7 and it doesn’t work now. I just get a page with the page title and nothing else. Any help you can give is appreciated
thanks
Jon
My website will use SlickR for our photo gallery…. as soon as I work out a few issues.
1. The first album needs to load immediately.
2. I can’t find where the “slideshow | Flickr page” gets added to the menu, I don’t want either option.
That’s it! Someone please help me!
solved #2:
you can find the code that adds: “slideshow | Flickr page” in
/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/templates/galleries_menu.php
if you want to get rid of it or modify.
so…. the question remains: how can I get the first album to load automatically.
Hi there! by far the best and easiest flickr plugin ever!
there is still some small thing that seems not fixed. It still says: “Page Not Found” in the title bar?
Using current version 0.6.5 with german wp 2.6 see it here:
http:climbr.de/flickr
first of all thanks for the plugin and the work you are doing there!
i have the same problem than Marcus before me. I have read all the comments here but i haven’t found a solution yet
the link to my gallery is
http://www.layabozi.com/photos/
i do have lightbox 2 and cURL installed, yet it is not working.
hope you can help me.
much thanks!
I have struggled with this for days and can’t get it to work.
Worse still, I can’t delete it – when I go to delete it via FTP I am told:
“Can’t change the directory to /public_html/blogname/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/flickr-cache: Permission denied”
Permission???
If the admin doesn’t have permission to delete this file who does?
How do I delete this plugin?
Another question.
I have it partially working but when I try to use it to insert a picture into a post I find that the Flickr button is missing. Instead there is a ? as if the image can’t be found. After pressing where the button should be I get this error:
Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, ‘SlickrPlugin::upload_tabs_scripts’ was given in /home/sitename/public_html/blogname/blog/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 339
Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, ‘media_admin_css’ was given in /home/sitename/public_html/blogname/blog/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 339
and about the last 20 flickr photos. However the photo I wanted to insert is older than the last 20 photos. So I use the tag search. Instead of bringing up a list of photos with that tag, I am sent to the default WordPress gallery.
Help.
Hi,
this plugin is very very beautifull…
But I have one question:
• How I make to display the widget photo in my sidebar?
Thanks and excuse me for my bad english… :(
Marco
Great plugin! But the trailing slash problem is killing me.
I created a blank page and the URL does not contain a trailing slash by default. However, the link generated by Slickr Gallery adds that slash automatically.
So, it’s not possible for me to show the page correctly with the built-in function wp_list_pages, and I have to write the link manually, which prevents me from displaying a series of pages in a dropdown menu.
It drives me nuts.
I have the same problem as Dave (from 12.17.08 / 8pm). The Flickr Photo link that brings up my photos in an overlay only displays 20 photos. I would like to have it display more, or have the sets/collections browsable. However, when I try to search for tags, I get sent to the default gallery homepage inside the overlay.
I’m also having the same issue as Dave and Ramsey above; there seem to be some missing functions in these PHP files but I have no idea what they’re supposed to do.
I ‘fixed’ it by commenting out a couple of the offending lines of code (hopefully they’re not used anywhere). These are found in the slickr.php file in the main slickr-gallery folder of your plugins.
The two lines are found on lines 556 and 557. The original function looks like this:
function media_upload_content($mode=’stream’) {
/*
if (!$this->options) $this->options = get_option(‘tantan_wordpress_s3′);
//if (!is_object($this->s3)) {
require_once(dirname(__FILE__).’/lib.s3.php’);
$this->s3 = new TanTanS3($this->options['key'], $this->options['secret']);
$this->s3->setOptions($this->options);
//}
*/
add_filter(‘media_upload_tabs’, array(&$this, ‘media_upload_tabs’));
add_action(‘admin_print_scripts’, array(&$this, ‘upload_tabs_scripts’));
add_action(‘admin_print_scripts’, ‘media_admin_css’);
add_action(‘tantan_media_upload_header’, ‘media_upload_header’);
if ($mode == ‘albums’) {
wp_iframe(array(&$this, ‘albumsTab’));
} elseif ($mode == ‘everyone’) {
$_REQUEST['everyone'] = true;
wp_iframe(array(&$this, ‘photosTab’), 40);
} else {
wp_iframe(array(&$this, ‘photosTab’), 40);
}
}
Change it to this:
function media_upload_content($mode=’stream’) {
/*
if (!$this->options) $this->options = get_option(‘tantan_wordpress_s3′);
//if (!is_object($this->s3)) {
require_once(dirname(__FILE__).’/lib.s3.php’);
$this->s3 = new TanTanS3($this->options['key'], $this->options['secret']);
$this->s3->setOptions($this->options);
//}
*/
add_filter(‘media_upload_tabs’, array(&$this, ‘media_upload_tabs’));
// add_action(‘admin_print_scripts’, array(&$this, ‘upload_tabs_scripts’));
// add_action(‘admin_print_scripts’, ‘media_admin_css’);
add_action(‘tantan_media_upload_header’, ‘media_upload_header’);
if ($mode == ‘albums’) {
wp_iframe(array(&$this, ‘albumsTab’));
} elseif ($mode == ‘everyone’) {
$_REQUEST['everyone'] = true;
wp_iframe(array(&$this, ‘photosTab’), 40);
} else {
wp_iframe(array(&$this, ‘photosTab’), 40);
}
}
In case you can’t see it, we added two forward slashes in front of the following lines:
add_action(‘admin_print_scripts’, array(&$this, ‘upload_tabs_scripts’));
add_action(‘admin_print_scripts’, ‘media_admin_css’);
These two functions don’t seem to appear in the class definition or, in fact, any of the included PHP files (hence the error!)
Regarding the number of images shown in the admin panel, I believe (untested–I only have 12 pics so far) can be set by altering a value on line 518 of the same PHP file:
$perpage = 20;
This can be found in the ‘photosTab’ function. Be sure to include the semi-colon at the end; PHP is finicky regarding syntax.
Backup your existing PHP file and upload the new one; the problems should be gone (or at least hidden).
Now my problem (and I don’t know where to begin fixing this):
Slickr images work great in 90% of my pages (including ones with multiple images) but one one specific page where I have a few images they are loaded into a blank popup instead of the lightbox frame. To return back to the page (which is now darkened with the overlay), I have to reload. Luckily it’s only been a problem with one post so far but I haven’t been able to figure out a solution. Any help or insight would be appreciated!
I discovered that the “admin_print_scripts” hook is invoked just before WordPress inserts JavaScript into the page it’s assembling. If there’s some crucial bit of client-side code missing, it may explain why some of the associated features don’t work.
I also came across a possible solution to the cache problems folks are experiencing (again not tested so it may not work).
Try adding the following line to the ‘admin’ function of the slickr.php file:
$flickr->clearCache();
So, for example, the admin function may look like this:
function admin() {
$flickr->clearCache();
/* To override, and use your own key/shared secret, uncomment these two lines: */
//$mykey = update_option(‘SLICKR_FLICKR_APIKEY’, “8d7595c95deac1c0ef871a38c751991e”);
//$mysecret = update_option(‘SLICKR_FLICKR_SHAREDSECRET’, “b4090c6189ced220″);
/* Get some basics requirements out of the way: */
$slickr_cache_dir_path = (ABSPATH.’wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/flickr-cache/’);
if(!file_exists($slic
…
The nearer to the top the better.
The reason I believe people may not be able to manually clear the cache is because PHP runs as a separate process with different permissions so, from the operating system’s perspective, you shouldn’t be able to manipulate the files/folders. This solution (assuming it works) has PHP, the original creator, do the clearing for you.
Hope it works!
..shoot, forgot that you need to instantiate the instance first. Add the following *before* the clearCache line:
$flickr = new Slickr();
…otherwise PHP will complain that it doesn’t know what $flickr is.
Has anyone had any luck getting this plugin to work with wordpress 2.7?
Patcrick B, what problem are you trying to solve iwth your suggested hack?
I tried it anyway in desperation to get this plugin to work.
I added the line as you suggested:
} elseif ($_POST['action'] == ‘logout’) {
/* nuke our gallery */
update_option(‘Slickr_flickr_token’, ”);
$flickr = new Slickr();
$flickr->clearCache();
}
But I still get the longlist of code (that I mentioned previously).
I have fixed my issue. I had to chmod the permissions on the following folders to 777:
/home/sitename/public_html/blogname/blog/wp-content/plugins/slickr-plugin
/home/sitename/public_html/blogname/blog/wp-content/plugins/slickr-plugin/flickr-cache
I am really not comfortable with the vulnerabilities caused by this wide open setting of 777 though as it means that the folders are open to the whole world, giving the ability for anyone to write to those folders.
Am I being paranoid or is this setting of 777 too dangerous to leave as it is?
OK, I have another question:
I can’t find any information on the $mykey or the $mysecret settings. The only referrence to it is a comment in slickr.php file that says:
“To override, and use your own key/shared secret, uncomment these two lines:
/* $mykey = update_option(‘SLICKR_FLICKR_APIKEY’, “8d7595c95deac1c0ef871a38c751991e”); */
/* $mysecret = update_option(‘SLICKR_FLICKR_SHAREDSECRET’, “b4090c6189ced220″); */”
Where do I get a key or a shared secret?
Can I just make them up?
What is the purpose of these?
Hi :)
I just made a wordpress blog autoinstalled by my hoster :) I’m happy and installed flickr album widget, but I did not love it
Now I discovered your, this slickr seems to be so great and beautifull, perfect to me, I wanna use it :)
So I installed it on my blog, with lightbox 2 as you said :)
ligntbox 2 works perfect :)
widget works perfect :)
(I’d like to be able to choose pics that appear in the widget, by tag for example, but not so important ;)
the insert in post works perfect (tooo happy, so thanks)
lightbox works perfect (thanks thanks again :)
will try later to see If I can change colors of lightbox theme changing css and images in one theme folder to be better with my blog theme ;)
BUT I’m so so sad, you’re beautifull pluggin DOES NOT work with it’s main service:
nothing appears on my gallery page unless my introduction post and the columns of my blog theme on the side :(
I can’t understand why, the url is perfect
only difference, my url page is with no slash at the end
and when I register the url in slickr options, it adds automaticly a slash
but it should not make prob as it is redirected automaticly untill the “without slash” url when I click on “view gallery” in the widget???
Please I don’t know about php, so if the solution is to change some code, please explain me where and how precisely :)
so so thanks to you :)
I use wordpress 2.6.2
hosted by servage.net
my site: http://loulouchan.com/myblog/
my SLICKR page (mes galleries):
http://loulouchan.com/myblog/index.php/mes-galleries
(don’t look at my “photos” page, it’s with the other plugins and not cute at all :)
so thanks by advance for the help :)
Loulou
god I found a solution when I was looking for a solution for another problem (bad links with my archives and last new posts :)))
not only I had to choose day/month/year/title for permalink but I had to add
/index.php/
before :))
so so happy, it’s beautifull :))
Now just that it push my theme columns to the bottom so I have to find a solution to earse the columns from only this page, not your problem I have to find in another way :))
in all cases, It’s simply beautifull, usefull, mùagic :)
so so thank you for the plugin :)
Loulou
So far I am using the permalink structure of /category/post-name/ and the plugin works as per normal. Regarding problems where a page title of ‘Page not found’ is being seen when you load the gallery page, a solution will be creating a new page in your WordPress with the same URL as the Slickr gallery page (as configured in the Options). The page title will be replaced with the one you’ve assigned to the page.
This plugin is really, really beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
is it possible for other users to also ad their photos or to create galleries of their own or is this only for the blog owner?
I’ve upgrade my site from WP 2.3 to WP 2.5. Slickr stop working as many of you have point out already.
Then I upgrade WP from 2.5 to 2.7 last night. Got exactly the same problem as Dave and Ramsey encountered.
Tanks so much for the solution from Patrick.
The bug seems fixed but now lightbox don’t work.
Not just the newly added photos, but ALL photos in my old post !
I’ve installed the latest version 2.8 from this site, read the whole faq, reinstall / activate / de-activate , try on different browser and theme, IT JUST DON’T WORK.
Now here is my fix:
I use shadowJS instead of lightbox, thanks for the help from this forum:
http://wordpress.org/support/topic/222687
activate shadowJS , choose prototype as my js library in shadownJS setting menu, enable link….
I can go to sleep now.
Hope this will help.
I’ve installed the Slickr plugin and it’s working well, with the exception of the page title. It shows as “Page not found” and I can’t find a way to change it or even where the header is generated.(!?)
I’m also confused about the URL structure. I’m new to php, but when I see a URL like http://www.bluemoonkites.com/wp/gallery/ , I’d expect a /gallery/ directory on the server, but no such animal. Sorry if that’s a silly newbie question, but…
Thanks for a wonderful plugin!, Ken
Sorry, my first question has been answered by reading the entries above. Thanks Teddy!
1st of all thanks for this lovely plug-in. Only thing not working is the widget :/
It doesnt show up in the admin widget panel either.
I can activate the widget plugin, but thats about it. tried already to move the widget php into the plugin folder instead of the slickr folder, but no result.
I am using WP 2.7, Lightbox 2.8.0, Slickr Gallery 0.6.5 and slickr widget 1.0. Anyone has same problem or a resolution for this ?
Regards.
http://www.keskispas.net
Hi i have a problem, it seems that the plugin works at half, it doesnt leave me to change the diferent sets i can only view the one that appears for default of flickr, instead of that, it puts me this code:
Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argument is expected to be a valid callback, ‘SlickrPlugin::upload_tabs_scripts’ was given in I:\FerozoWebHosting\zona84.com\public_html\wp-includes\plugin.php on line 339
thanks for your help, amazing plug.
Anyone has resolution to call_user_func_array widget problem?
Hi Rupert, wicked plug in, its awesome!
I’m just wondering, is there a way to call the function that creates the instance of slickr from within a custom category template? Something like ?
I want to wrap the slickr div in some other stuff so that it fits with the design of my page. When I choose a page to put the slickr on…it kind of ruins my layout.
Thanks!
Hello,
I have the wicketpixie theme activated on my site and I think I have tweaked the slickr theme to match the index.php
but if you look at fluiddynamic.co.uk/photos, it looks like the gallery is being placed in the sidebar?
Any ideas?
Thanks
Hi,
I’m trying to use slickr on a wordpress blog that I’m building but am running into some problems. I’ve got everything up and running but when I go to the photo gallery page there’s just a spinning wheel that say’s “Loading Flickr.com content…”
I’m running Slickr Gallery 0.6.5 with Lightbox 2.8.2
Sorry if the solution was above, just not sure what code I need to hack. Thanks!
Does anyone have a problem with slickr listing their flickr albums twice? It’s been doing this for a while now, but not every album.
http://livingconstellation.com/gallery/
Ok, so I’m nearly there with Slickr Gallery,…have it working to upload photos in posts and the flickr rss on my homepage works fine with Shadowbox…
I don’t know how to finalize the Slickr Gallery Settings, how to create the path to a gallery URL…when I change the permalinks default like ?=172 to any of the other options, I’m just clicking another option, the page comes up as an error page…
I do get a message on the permalinks page that says I should update my .htaccess file but I don’t know how to do that…
Can anybody help me?…I mean when I input the ?page_id=53 test page I’m doing I do get a “View your gallery” link on the Slickr Gallery settings page, and it takes me to a page set up correctly, with my albums, but they don’t work…no thumbnails come up…looks like some text flashes for a moment, another error page?
ok, that’s my story of woe for this morning…any pointers in the right direction would be kindly appreciated…thanks…
M
So.. Lightbox 2 version 2.8.2 isn’t loading right.
http://simplyjic.net/slickr/
I’m using WP 2.7.1
Is there any other lightbox plugin that will work ??
I got everything to work except that damn lightbox ruins it UGH!
Ok, I’m stumped. My gallery here: http://www.thefirestarter.org/photos/general/
refuses to load the albums into the overlay. It does it the same thing with every Slickr or WordPress theme I try. Latest Slickr, lightbox 2, shadowbox, wordpress, etc etc.
Ji, I found a few walkthroughs on using various other lightbox style plugins with it. Here’s a link to shadowbox:
http://www.stevestreeting.com/2009/02/08/using-shadowboxjs-with-slickr-gallery/
The page is shown on /gallery/ as default. Is there any way of changing the template this page uses?
I keep getting the following error regarding the foreach argument. I do not know if it is related to private vs. public photos. Any ideas?
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/website/public_html/blog/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr.php on line 392
I’m having a weird issue. I followed the instructions, activated both Lightbox and Slickr plugins in WordPress, created a gallery directory under Slickr options (amd4.net/testgallery/) but when I don’t create the page (testgallery), the gallery page loads fine, but the photos don’t show up — thumbnails or overlay.
Conversely, when I create the page of the gallery (testgallery), which I know was required with WP v.2.5 (I’m using 2.7.1), it completely breaks the page, putting a big bar over the header section and screwing everything up. I keep hoping there is some tiny tweak I’m missing on the install. Ideas? I need to create the page the gallery lives on in order for it to show up in the nav bar, but I don’t know why it gets so broken.
UPDATE: I figured it out. I had to disable “Page Template Plugin” and delete/reinstall the latest version of Lightbox, and then everything worked. Seemed conflicting plugins was the problem.
I´m getting this error message since about two weeks I think. Can anyone interpret this one for me? My host installed a new PHP version but he claims that this can not be the reason. I´m feeling that the folder structure is somehow broken, but if that would be the case, I would not be the only one to post here, am I right? ;)
So please help me… here is the error message (appearing in “Settings” and on my gallery-Page)
Warning: require_once(): open_basedir restriction in effect. Hi,
I just customized Slickr for the beautiful J’s Theme. If you are interested, I’ll upload the css file for you.
I just updated to Version 0.6.5 and now it is not working anymore. Before this update everything worked flawleess.
To be more specific. I updated lightbox-2 also to the latest version, deinstalled and reinstalled both plugins, but still got massive errors:
The settings page for slickr stays gray, the insert flickr photo box in the post editor gives this kind of errors:

I do not know if the insufficient memory does anything bad?? But it is the third error in a row …
The web site is (fortunately) working great – but I am neither abel to refresh my photos nor to include new photos in posts.
What did I do wrong?
The 404 problem could be solved by setting the permalink style to
/%postname%/
It’s only working for me with leading and trailing slash!
Ah, and: create the empty WP page with the same gallery name (someone mentioned the trick above)
Is there any way to have two instances of the Slickr Widget on the same page, and have it call thumbnails from two different albums?
Ok, this might be simple, but how can I have lightbox effect on my flickr feed images? I have the plugin working fine, but when I click a thumbnail it just loads the bigger version of the image in flickr.
Is it even possible to get the bigger sized image to load on my site with the lightbox effect?
Hopefully this made some sense.
Thanks.
Every time I try to add a photo in the create post section I get this double error message every time, above the available thumbnails.
Why and what can I do to fix the plug-in if there are no updates pending?

Slickr is a great plugin for Flickr problems and thank you very much for your great work.
Like many other problems when editing a post and click on the “Flickr Photos” link, the window comes up, but within it,

WP Version is 2.8.2
Thank you!
I hope you won’t mind a couple of questions from a novice who also has limited PHP knowledge.
I’m trying out the Slickr plug-in and it does exactly what I need but I would like a bit of a nudge on a couple of things.
1) Uisng K2 theme the plugin creates its own page but I cant work out how to get this page in the site index, tabbed menu bar. I can manually add a tag and reference but it isn’t perfect.
2) I think that slickr uses a key to gain access to the flickr content and that users can implement their own key for that. Where can I learn how to do that?
Thanks
Martin
Hey, Great Plugin.
I’m more of a moo guy, so I did a little modifications and updated slickr.js for mootools.
I put the basic about it here: http://blog.slajax.com/2009/08/26/slickr-for-mootools/
Cheers!
Hi everybody, and first thanks for this nice plugin.
But I meet a common problem i guess: in the gallery part some of my photos are not considered, even if they are public.
You can see the exemple here: http://www.personalpattern.com/gallery
Actually it is the last pictures (one full album, the last one, and all the pictures but one of the last but one album)
Is there any maximum capacity for the cache? Maximum number of pictures to be loaded? I haven’t tried to add another album to see if it’s ok, I don’t have any ready to up right now.
Hope someone can help me… thank you! Have a great day anyway!
Ludo
Sorry to spam but actually to make the link work you have to add a slash at the end of the link: http://www.personalpattern.com/gallery/
Cheers~
Can’t get slickr to show Large.
I tried replcaing Medium to Large in slickr.php but no dice.
Any hints?
Hi, I just downloaded the slickr plugin and I’ve been trying to get it to work for the past 24 hours now and I must be overlooking something. I used the flickr gallery plugin before and to input it into a page or post you typed [flickr-gallery]. Obviously that doesn’t work for this. My page I want this photo gallery on is http://sanfranciscopubcrawl.com/pictures, and yes I also tried http://sanfranciscopubcrawl.com/pictures/. I think the settings are correct since I can preview my gallery, and I’m telling it what page I want it on, it’s just not displaying there.
Hi,
Will slickr be updated for WP 2.8.4?
Someday, yes. But I am not actively developing my WP plugins at the moment.
@slajax: You did it!
You added the most-wanted load-default-set feature : )
Unfortunately in mootools-scripting… Any idea how to re-convert the last part of your code back to jquery?
http://allermand.net/code/slickr.txt
Best regards
How do I insert this manually into a template?
The problem of the “Page not found” in the title is solved adding a Page with the same name as your gallery. You should check the structure of your permalinks in the “Settings” control panel.
The author recomends the format: /%postaname%/ but not all servers allow that form. Instead i have index.php/%postaname%/.
Just go ahead and create a new page after setting things up in Slicrk with the same name.
That way you can link your gallery using the Page widget for example. It worked okay for me and solved the problem.
Great plugin!
I think you forgot to include the WYSWIG icon in the zip file. It is looking for icon.gif in slickr-gallery/slickr/templates/
I just downloaded it fresh from WordPress.org and no icon. :(
Hi Rupert
I’ve just installed Slickr on a client website I’m building, but I can’t get it to authorize with Flickr.
When I do step one, and click the correct Next button on the flickr website, I get the following error…
That’s no longer a valid “frob”.
I downloaded Slickr from the Wodpress site, and it sounds like exactly what I need, so would love to get it working.
Any ideas?
Tnx, Dan
Unfortunately, I’m running up against the same problem as many other posters: failed calls to call_user_func_array(). Am running WP 2.8.6, Lightbox 2.8.0 and Slickr 0.6.3.
This seems to be a common error for a lot of people. How can we resolve this?
Here’s the error:
Warning: call_user_func_array() [function.call-user-func-array]: First argumented is expected to be a valid callback, ‘slickrplugin::upload_tabs_scripts’ was given in /home2/jamesbel/public_html/wp-includes/plugin.php on line 339

Sorry, incomplete bug report. The error above shows in the pop-up when I click the “Flickr Photos” link on the Edit Post page. This, I believe, is consistent with other people’s problems.
…and one more correction. I have Lightbox 2.8.2 (not 2.8.0) and have tried Slickr 0.6.3, 0.6.4 and 0.6.5, all with the same results.
I’m getting the same errors as James B above. I’ve searched and searched and can’t find a correction to this problem. It is a common error and there must be a solution. Can anyone assist?
Thanks in advance.
Great plugin. Is there a shortdode or php code that I can use to insert the functionality of the sidebar widget into the main content area of a page? Also, is it possible to pull in two different albums on the same page?
Has the issue with larger size images in lightbox ever been resolved?
I do like the plugin but having only small size pics is very limiting …
thanks!
I’m get these errors:
Warning: ini_set() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/mipeque/public_html/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/phpFlickr/phpFlickr.php on line 36
Warning: require_once(HTTP/Request.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/mipeque/public_html/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/phpFlickr/phpFlickr.php on line 90
How do I solve thosE?
love slickr but would like to keep my sidebar… any tips on how to do this would be much appreciated.
my blog’s slickr page: http://sabatica.cat/fotos
Thanks in advance for your help!
I thought I had found a way to hide the sidebar (it doesn’t show on any Mac browsers) but just tested on ie and realised it’s still there but it has been displaced to the bottom left corner…
how do I get it to either show on its place on all browsers?
help will be much appreciated.
btw, the link has changed: sabatica.cat/flickr
Hi Rupert,
Sorry if I’m being too insistent but I’d love to get this to work…
The slickr page is: http://sabatica.cat/flickr/
To summarize my 2 previous posts: I’d like to keep the sidebar or if that weren’t possible hide it. Now it’s somehow displaced to the bottom left of the page.
Thank you so very much for your assistance.
