Slickr 0.5.7 released!
Download it | What is it? | See it in action
Slickr Gallery is a very fast Flickr photo album plugin for WordPress. It uses AJAX extensively to minimize bandwidth use and present a slick user interface.
New in this release:
- Major under-the-hood changes.
- Greater compatibility with many web hosts.
Known issues:
- All albums are shown, regardless of albums selected in the Slickr Gallery options page.
It’s early days for Slickr Gallery, but you will hopefully find it very usable. Please post feedback in the comments below.
PLEASE READ THE INCLUDED readme.txt BEFORE POSTING A COMMENT!

Thanks for the new update! your plugin helps me a lot. but I?ve two questions.
How can I transport the ?original tags? and ?the flickr photo URI? to a single posted flickr image in wordpress post panel? Which variables I have to use for this?
I would really like it if the original flickr image tags will be automatical inserted in the new WP 2.3 Tag insert field. Is this also possible?
Thanks for your work and hopefully a fast answer! ;-)
Bye
diwie: Slickr doesn’t support either of your requests. For more options, try Joe Tans excellent plugin http://tantannoodles.com/toolkit/photo-album/
Mine is purposely lean and has few options. This is what gives it much greater speed.
It seems to be broken in Safari again. :(
It works fine in my Safari…
Weird, I haven’t been able to get it to work in Safari for ages, and I haven’t changed up my plugins for a long time, guess I need to go through them all again. :P
Hmm, I think there’s something wrong with my Safari install maybe, your gallery works fine for me but mine doesn’t, and I haven’t changed themes since the last time it worked or anything. Turning off all other plugins didn’t work either. I’m going to try re-installing Safari and a couple other things and see if that clears it up.
Hi,
I have been using your plugin for quite some time. I switched from Tantannoodles since yours is faster and easy to set up.
But I have one problem. I have a blog in vernacular which needs translation to another language. But your plugin files have not been gettexted fully and no .pot file has been made available. I did some hacking in the previous version. Now, I have to do all that over again in the new version also! :(
A proper .pot file from you will make my life easier and also avoid errors on my part.
Thanks
Regards,
S.K
Rupert,
Thanks for the plugin. It’s working great! I was hoping you could tell me if it’s possible for me to get a custom header to be called to my photos page. I have custom headers for each of the pages on the site, but at the moment I can’t get one on the photos page? If it is possible, any idea what I should change?
Also, how would I go about changing the column width on galleries. At the moment there are 4 pictures displayed and I was hoping to increase that. My theme is quite wide. I am using the 3 column K2 theme in slickr right now.
My website is http://www.electricpig.org / http://www.electricpig.org/photos/
Thanks very much!
Olly: Your first question is way beyond the scope of slickr.
your second question: change line 12 of slickr-gallery/themes/3columnK2/style.css to:
width: auto;
SK: I’ll look into that.
Hi,
I am facing really strange issue with the plugin.. the plugin shows images very well but in the admin panel, the option page of this plugin is totally blank.. (it loads till the header and then it goes blank) I have been trying to figure out the issue since quite sometime but no luck till now.. I have tried using latest version too but same problem
any ideas on how to debug this issue?
Thanks
Deep
Thanks for the reply.
I’ve tried what you said (in slickr-gallery/themes/3columnK2/slickr.css). Do you mean the #slickrajaxcontent { section? I don’t have line numbers on my text editor *shame*! If so, it wasn’t making any difference. If not, where should I edit (if you could tell me by a similar description as above, I’d be really grateful)!
Sorry to be a pain.
I’ve fixed it! Apparently what was broken in mine was I had a couple of leftover bits from earlier versions of the plugin sitting in my database (not sure how that happened exactly). I deleted the slickr plugin from my plugins folder then cleared all traces out of the database so I could re-install it fresh, and now it’s all working just fine. ^_^
Sorry for buggin ya about it needlessly. :P
Deep: Follow the instructions in the FAQ section of the readme.txt
Olly: You can re-download the plugin; I’ve fixed the issue.
Thanks – strangely that doesn’t seem to have helped. Oh well, wil try to figure it out. Ironically though, I have worked out how to fix the other problem about headers I had, which was entirely my own stupidity’s fault!
Thanks for your prompt response, Rupert!

I just wanted to stop by again and say how wonderful this plugin is and how much my visitors love checking out my photos.
I had to do some customizing to some of the theme files to get rid of the sidebar and center everything but once i got it set it looks fantastic!
If your interested stop by my gallery here: http://www.sportech.info/gallery/
One thing I was wondering for future rlses. My site is mainly sports and I take alot of sports photos from games. I then do game recaps the next day and would like to be able to give a direct link to that photo album rather then send the user to the gallery page and instruct them to click on a page.
Basically have the ability to give the user a permalink to the album. I know you can do it now but it shows up outside of the site without any formatting or ajax sexiness. For example if I gave my users a link like this http://www.sportech.info/gallery/album/72157602966344843/Lightning__Panthers_11052007.html and they went to it it winds up displaying the album on a white page.
I hope that made some sense.
Even without that feature this is still the sexiest Flickr plugin out there.
Thanks again!
JD: Thanks for the compliments; I’m glad you enjoy it.
A feature similar to what you request, the ability to add an entire album to a blog post, is under technological consideration. As you’ve noticed from poking around the code, this is not simple or straightforward, so we won’t see it terribly soon. But it should be on the horizon.
Your plugin is nothing short of amazing.
I was wondering if you could assist me with something. The menu on my site became displaced when I added the gallery and I’m at a loss as to how to fix it. I was also wondering how I can alter the font, font size, etc. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
Any chance to have an option to first display Collections, then dive in and see albums for the selected collection?
Cheers,
B.
bugsland: maybe, someday ;)
aj: zip your theme and send it to me. rupert @ this domain
Thanks for the quick answer :)
I am sure it is a stupid question but couldn’t find the answer in the readme.txt.
What does the following option do?
Slickr Gallery URL:
What ever I put in it, if I then click on the link I get a 404 file not found error.
As it looks like it is trying to access a directory I have created that directory… but still no luck.
Are you suppose to create some index.html/php file in that directory to display your album? if so is there any templates anywhere?
Cheers,
B.
I got the gallery page to work just fine, but the Widget doesn’t appear in my widgets panel. Anybody else have this issue? How do I activate the widget?
bugsland: delete the folder you created.
mrjaygee: Drag the widget into your plugins folder.
Howdy,
First – this gallery plugin is pretty awesome. I have it running on a blog I did for my family.
Second – I am having a problem with conflicting scripts I think. I was wondering if you could take a quick peek at my site to see if you can tell me why, when I have lightbox active, my ajax search bar is disabled. My thoughts are it has something to do with prototype.js script. Any help greatly appreciated!!
Oh, the blog url is http://www.vancesmith.net. Currently I have all the plugs active but, as you can see the search bar shows up as default even though when I disable lightbox it works as the modded ajax search.
As of 3:30PM, you have no lightboxed images, and your search works fine, so I can’t really offer any suggestions.
Plugin doesn’t work. Gives blank screen in options panel.
Followed all the instructions in the FAQ. Webserver should allow all the necessary codes.
Regards,
DM
Thought I posted, but can’t see it actually being posted.
Anyway, the plugin isn’t working for me. It shows a blank options page. I followed all the steps (under FAQ) in your readme.
Regards,
DM
Hey thanks for getting back to me. No sweat Rupert. I’m not trying to rush a man who is giving out free plugins ;) Take your time!
I was wondering if you could give me a quick hand with some CSS tweaking. I’m such a noob I’m embarrassed. I recently added the Flickr profile widget code to the slickr.js file so it loads when you go to my gallery. You can see it load when you go to my page: http://www.sportech.info/gallery/ I want to get rid of the black border on the widget without removing the border from the gallery thumbnails. I know the part of the CSS that is adding the border is
#slickrajaxcontent imgbecause I removed the border: 1px line. What can I add to the Default theme CSS file to remove the border on the widget without removing the border on the thumbnails?
Sorry I’m so wordy I just like to make sure you understand my noobness!
Thanks again for the sexy plugin!
JD
Okay I now have the lightbox gallery performing perfectly, however when I have the gallery plugin active for some reason my ajax search box is disabled. If I disable the lightbox plugin the search box works once more. Thanks in advance for any help. Also, where do I style the thumbnail boxes with css for the gallery? I want to change the border colors etc. Thanks again.
Hey… your plugin isn’t working. Options panel gives a blank screen, also with all other plugins disabled. Can you give me some feedback? (My post doesn’t show up here)
Just wanted to stop back by and thank Rupert. He helped me via email fix my CSS problem.
Hi, Rupert.. Once again, thanks for this wonderful work. The gallery looks great, and it’s functioning flawlessly for me, but I do have one problem. Apparently, I don’t know how to set the page title for this.
When I view the gallery with the SEO Title Tag plugin activated I get a 404 Error for my title. When I view the gallery with the SEO Title Tag deactivated I just get the name of my site (Azedia) as the title.
Sorry to through a plugin into the question, but either way I’d like to have a nice title for the gallery.
Thanks!
Thanks for this awesome plugin! Really simple/clean, and a breeze to setup.
I was just wondering if there is a way to set the image size the plugin downloads (ie. original, large, medium, etc..)
sheel:
AFA showing full-sized pictures, in posts, changing $photoURL to $big_photoURL on line 114 of admin-photos-tab.php *should* do it…
AFA showing full size pictures in the AJAX gallery, change line 398′s “Medium” to Large in slickr.php will do it. Keep in mind that photos above a certain size take exponentially longer to load and don’t display nicely on modest screen sizes.
These are global changes… you can’t specify on a per-photo basis.
Saw a demo of this plugin and it looks great. I’m trying to get it working, but hit a wall that I can safely attribute to php5.
Non-static method SlickrPlugin::insert_paypal_nag() cannot be called statically in …/wp-content/plugins/slickr-gallery/slickr/templates/admin-options.php
Is there a simple way to resolve this? Downgrading to php4 will cause a world of hurt so I’m looking for alternatives. I’m okay with perl, but am php illiterate so i’m unable to translate the solution on the php site (http://us2.php.net/functions) into anything that will work with these scripts. I’d appreciate any assistance you can provide.
Hello and thanks for the plugin, it’s just super great !
i just have a small problem, when clicking on the “view gallery” button, the next page just keep loading the FlickR application forever.
There is no FlickR album on the left and no picture at all ?
this is my site url : http://www.lepabomarketing.com/photos/
Hope i did something wrong and that this pb be solve asap because your plugin is cool !
thanks in advance,
Jay
jay: You haven’t installed lightbox-2 correctly. Re-read the installation section of the readme, and follow it exactly.
Hi Rupert,
thanks for your info, it works now, but i have another problem just with firefox.
When i click on a picture – even with the defaut or Hemingway template – there’s a white square on the background as shown in the screenshot : http://www.lepabomarketing.com/pb.jpg
many thanks,
Jay
You’ve got another lightbox running, so I can’t really troubleshoot. It is a CSS style conflict, which is very odd, as Hemingway shouldn’t conflict with lightbox at all.
Contact your lightbox plugin’s author.
hi there, really great plugin. good work.
any solution to hide a album so far??
thanks
red fuse
Hi,
thank you for this great plugin.
I want to have a page like your /gallery/
I supposed it is related to the option “slickr gallery URL”
But I got the same problem as Bugsland describe.
As you answer him, I delete the directory but I still have “The requested URL /WordPress/test/ was not found on this server.”. Is there something else to do ?
whio create the index.php ?
Do you supply some templates for creating such a gallery page ?
Thanks for your explanitions
Dominique
thanks for your mail asking me the link to the site.
WordPress was installed on a local machine so I can’t give you the link.
When I redo the installation process on the production server Ieverything work fine.
Soory for this …
Maybe you can explain for other users having the same problem that it is a dynamic link …
Thank you agin
Dominique
Hy
i’m testing your plugin to use it in my site.
I heave many photos in my flickr, but in the Photos tab (wordpress manage option) appear only 10 pages with 10 pictures each one.
What can i do to appear all off my flickr pictures in this tab?
Thanks.
Hiding “private” Flickr photos would be a great addition! A very private one turned up on my site after I installed Slickr. I’d say this is an essential addition to an already awesome plugin!
Hello Rupert,
I really like this plug-in, because I always want to insert my flickr photos to my blog with the lightbox effect. Thank you!
And I have one question about the data imported from flickr. I sometimes use chinese as my flickr photo title. When the slickr inserted my photo, these titles become meaningless character. I know the plug-in is already using UTF-8, so I guess the problem may be somewhere else in the files. Could you give me some hint as where I may look at and try to tweak the files a bit?
HI fantastic plug
It is working very well.
One small issue: I have ten flickr sets. I would only likely to display 5. But everytime I “uncheck” some sets and then click “save settings”, they become “checked” again. And keep appearing
Question: Is there a way to have one set dispaly the thumbnails on initial page load. or a way to have permalinks for each set?
Thanks for a great plugin
http://www.cycling-challenge.com/slickr/
Is it possible to get some form of support / implementation that will allow users of slickr to designate a flickr “group” as the source photos are pulled from?
Great work btw. I am very impressed.
kadu: I’ll see if I can extend this for the next version of slickr.
wibbler: private photos should _never_ show up via slickr… it is not an option, it is the default behavior. Make sure permissions are correctly set on flickr.com
tpalice: I will look into this. Can you provide a link?
will: the sets displaying is a known issue. I’ll work on that.
As far as loading a gallery by default, and permalinks, this is not possible yet and won’t be for some time.
adyo: No, as you do not have rights over the group’s photos… I’ll see if there is a workaround I can use, but it is unlikely. This is a plug in for individuals, not groups.
phew!
Hi Rupert,
Here are the link to my post using slickr lightbox ( http://tpalice.alhug.com/195.html ). Here is the original flickr photo ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/tpalice/2090278875/ ). Please let me know if you need more information. Thank you for the time and efforts you put into this plug-in.
It doesn’t work to me… i’ve configured it “well”, but when I access the url that i’ve configured in the Slickr Gallery URL it returns me a 404 page not found error!
Could you help me?
Thanks and congratulations, the plug-in is great!
Jordi
I write to answer myself because I found the solution to my problem! I just had to enable mod-rewrite!
Thanks anyway! :)
I have the same issue as JD with borders on the widget, I am wondering if JD or rupert could email me the solution
Nice plugin…I am late to the party. One quick question: how do I get my album to display like yours on this site? I currently get one long column and I’d like to do 3 X 4. Thanks
Jon
p.s. Its not the site linked above; its another project I’m working on.
because of the slickr gallery url problem a lot of people mentioned, i had also problems, and i didn’t know how to solve it!
/gallery/ is only possible, if you have changed the permalinks, and if you change that, you have to put the code like “some code”
in your .htaccess
Otherwise all the links will not work
slickr is awesome!
Hi Rupert,
first of all i wanne thank your for this plugin. but i have the same problem as mr mrjaygee. the widget isnt showing up in my widget control pannel. I already moved the file slickr_widget.php to the plugins folder. but the widget is still not showing up.
I use wp 2.7, slickr 0.6.5 and lightbox 2.8.0. thanks for your response.
Thanks for such a usable plugin. Makes sharing photos a breeze! My question pertains as to why the slickr gallery won’t show up on my current photo gallery page. The page is http://www.1kfor1k.com/media/photos , I have the permalink set to media/photos and permission is applied correctly and everything. I know this works, Ive used it on other blog sites, but cant figure out why its not showing up this time. Ideas? Thanks a ton.
