New Lightbox 2.4 plugin for WordPress
Get the latest version here. Click a thumbnail pic to see it in action.
Lightbox 2 allows you to present images in a slick window, while darkening the rest of the page. It makes your site look professional, and adds very little to page load times. It does not require any browser plugins to work, and works on just about every web browser out there! When a browser doesn’t support javascript, your web site still looks and works fine.
The brilliant Lightbox 2.2 javascript/css was written by Lokesh Dhakar. I simply made it into a WordPress plugin.
To install: Put the lightbox-2 folder in your WordPress plugins folder, then activate it in WordPress.
Implementing Lightbox on your site is easy: grab the lightbox-auto plugin by Mdkart which automatically adds this code to appropriate images! Or, if you prefer, manually add rel=”lightbox” to your thumbnail image’s href tag, or rel=”lightbox[groupname]“ to a group of related photos.
Features:
- Now hosted on WordPress.org. When an update is released, you’ll see it in your WordPress plugins page!
- No longer conflicts with any WordPress themes! This means it looks right, every time. Unless you are using a theme called stimuli_lightbox… ;)
- This version works when wordpress is installed in non-standard locations, ie: /wordpress/ instead of /, whereas other Lightbox plugins break.
- Uses the arrow keys as well as P and N keys to navigate between images. The X and Escape keys close the Lightbox window, as does clicking anywhere outside the image.
- Minor cosmetic changes from the scripts by Lokesh.

Lightbox doens’t work in combination with the K2 advanced page navigation. When going to older pages, the script is no longer loaded.
The plugin is not working with my Firefox
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; fr; rv:1.8.1.9) Gecko/20071025 Firefox/2.0.0.9
(its workin with IE)
cmarc: the issue is with your setup. Likely a firefox extension. It works fine under my WinXP FF 2.0.0.9.
Aloha!
Have been using your excellent tool for several months now. Works perfect – there is only one small annoyance:

1. Please visit the URL above.
2. If you click the image to open it with Lightbox, the interface of the audioplayer shines ‘through’ (in FF and IE7).
Any way to fix that?
Oke, fixed the problem. The audiplayer has an option that says transparancy. Switched it on – works. ;-)
Very cool plugin. I can’t figure out how to get it to work in my posts, though. It seems to work with Slickr Gallery and the widget just fine, but when I click on it in my posts, it just sits there and never loads the photo. Is this is a Slickr problem or a Lightbox problem? My blog is at http://stephenshores.org.
p.s. I tried it in Firefox, IE, and Opera.
you are linking to a page, not a photo.jpg
Hi, Rupert.. Again, everything is working great. I just wanted to follow up on a compatibility issue I previously mentioned between Lightbox 2 and the TinyMCE Comments plugin. As you may recall, with Lightbox 2 enabled, TinyMCE Comments failed in Firefox.
The other plugin author seems to have fixed whatever was causing the problem. Now both plugins work great side-by-side.
Just FYI – Cheers!
thanks, JKB
So Thanks Rupert.
Hello Rupert: I link the pictures from other sites, but WP only let me link 1 picture.
How I do more links to navigate between images? Actually I link a picture clicking the link icon on WP 2.6.
Regards,
Javier.
