Slickr Gallery 0.5.2b released *bugfixes for Safari*
Download it | What is it? | See it in action
Slickr Gallery is a light, very fast Flickr photo album plugin for WordPress. It uses AJAX extensively to minimize bandwidth use and present a slick user interface.
New in this release:
- Safari issues resolved with items fading in then disappearing.
Known issues:
- All albums are shown, regardless of albums selected in the Slickr Gallery options page.
It’s early days for Slickr Gallery, but you will hopefully find it very usable. Please post feedback in the comments below.

awesome.
p.s. wish list: when you get the album selection option working, would be great if you could just blog one (or several) new album(s) in a single post, rather than (or in addition to) having a separate gallery section….
I’ve installed SG 0.5.2b and Lightbox 2.3; and activated them. libcurl is enabled and working. So my problem is when I click on “options” in admin and then go to “Slickr Gallery” it just comes up blank, there is nothing there. What do I need to check/do to fix this?
bigjohn: you have another plugin conflicting with mine. Play the ‘process of elimination’…
I have installed and activated the gallery and lightbox plugins. when I click on the slickr gallery options, I get this message:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class pear in /usr/lib/php/PEAR.php on line 103
Hey Rupert:
Finally installed slickr on a test site to play with – having good fun. Have 2 questions if and when you don’t mind – I know this is unofficial support
1. If I manually call lightbox, I can do something like this in the anchor tag for pretty descriptions in my pop-up thinger: title="wind <br /> lambda print on metallic paper <br /> 250 x 500 mm" — is there somewhere /somecode I can put in that would use my flickr photos’ descriptions to do something like this, with the line breaks? I’ve tried a few things in a few places, but no luck in finding the right place/call… If it makes any difference, I am using slickr by clicking thumbnails to include in posts, not as a gallery….
2. That being said, as above, is there a way to change/add somecode somewhere that would make it link to my original image with lightbox when I do above, rather than the medium-sized one? This is less important than the above question.
I’m willing to do this myself (I know it’s very specific), so if you just point me to the right place in your code, the right functions, I’d be thrilled.
THANKS SO MUCH in advance. Again, the best flickr WordPress plugin around.
Cheers, nathaniel
evilsciencechick: see previous comment.
nathaniel: 1: flickr, when called, doesn’t appear to return line breaks, etc, which is a real pisser. I wish it did. I’ll experiment further.
2. That’s easy, but I’m inebriated and will have to get back to you.
Ha. enjoy the inebriation.
re: 1 – ok, then would you mind helping me get the descirption without line breaks – i’ve tried a few tweaks in the admin-photos tab, which is where i followed the trail, but i don’t seem to be well versed enough in phpFlickr to get it working properly….
re: 2- awesome, looking forward
thanks for your always timely responses in your unofficial support. thrilled.
I may be missing something but this does not appear to be working with WordPress 2.3. Specifically in the write/edit post area. It returns a 404 page where the uploads/photos tabs should be. I’ve compared to a working version and it seems to be mangling the path used to display the tabs.
Any chance that this is an easy fix or that it will be looked at soon?
daisyo75: I quietly updated Sickr… give it a try.
Works, thanks!
Any easy way to translate this?
You mean localize? I’ve never tried…
Hey Rupert. I’ve been looking for a plugin to replace the very finicky FAlbum. Really was a pain in the ass to integrate into my theme. Thing plugin looks light and easy and right up my alley!
I implemented it on my sports blog here: http://www.sportech.info/gallery/
Everything looks nice but what I was wondering was how to remove the white space on the right side of the page where the sidebar would normally go? I would like this plugin to have its own page without a sidebar. Removing the sidebar was easy by commenting out the sidebar code in the php file for the default theme. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to “stretch” the gallery across the page and essentially have a “wider” #slickrajaxcontent area.
Hope that made sense. I am CSS knowledgable to a point but not very savvy. I would appreciate any tips you could give me.
Thanks again for your hard work!
Nevermind. After tweaking it a bit I got it working nicely! Had to remove the narrowcolumn bit from the view.php.
This thing is so sexy bro. I’m really impressed
I have it working except when you click the link ‘View Next Albums’ it messes up and brings me to my wordpress admin sceen rather than listing the next albums. Can you offer some insight as to how i can go about fixing this?
None whatsoever! That’s really weird!
http://www.chicagohash.onabudgetwebsite.com/pictures/ — take a look at it — I believe it has something to do with the permalinks
It’s not just the view more albums link that isn’t working — if you click page 2 for photos in any album it will do the same so that means it probably is a permalinks issue. Does anyone else have this problem? I don’t believe i’m the only one that uses this plugin and uses custom tags in the permalink structure — does this help you pinpoint how to fix it Rupert? I’d be glad to donate to your project if you can get this to work for me.
I’d really like to use this plugin but it only woks half way :(
Rupert ? you are a genius! Your suspicion to the e-mail icon showing up next to the link was what the problem was. As you said, there was a plugin conflict and it was the File Icons plugin. It is working all good now!! Thank you!
Hello!
Is there a way to add it to the sidebar without using the widget? Something like:
or something like that??
Thanks for a great plugin!!
No. At a future date I’ll (hopefully) add the ability to embed albums within posts, but that’s about it. It’s pretty complicated stuff, this Flickr/AJAX/WordPress stuff ;)
Cool. Thanks!
FEATURE REQUEST: Shadowing. FAlbum has this, and it makes the pics look great, but your plugin is much better. I’ll wait on yours :)
Second, If you look at my gallery using firefox, then look at it using Microsoft Internet Explorer, the fonts are all fudged up. They look great in Firefox, but in IE, they start out looking ok, then seem to reload and display some blocky-looking fonts. Any idea what’s up with that?

I have made some CSS changes, but nothing to cause this, I don’t believe. I have even re-installed the Slickr and Lightbox from scratch in an effort to fix.
Thanks again!!!
still having the same issue as bigjohn. i’ve disabled everything and only turned on slickr. the options/slickr page comes up blank… i’ve tried every compatible theme too. can’t seem to figure this one out, but would really love to use it.
Hi there – I have tried to modify your code to display my Gallery images in reverse order, that is , I would like my images to appear with the latest photos first. This just saves scrolling through the pages of photos that people have already seen to get to the new ones. I can’t work out how to do it, but I have looked at the Flickr API and noticed they give no option for reversing the order. I figured it would be as simple as adding an array_reverse somewhere in your code, but I just can;t work it out. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks – Brant
Hi brant, I can’t customize the code for you, but any changes would be in slickr.php, 3/4 down. You might want to change the code to grab all photos, not just the ‘first page’ which Slickr does to greatly speed up calls to Flickr.com. Simply remove the number of photos to return, and it will return them all. Then an array reversal should work.
Running word press for a week I’m already totally fan, just found your plug in and installed it. The Sidebar widget is working fine but once you click on “view gallery” it says Loading Flickr.com content… and it stays that way..
any idea what could be causing this?
Another thingy, if you download the plugin it automaticly extracts to the folder “slickr-gallery” being the nerd that I am I didn’t read the read-me first.txt so it took a little before I had figured out the name of the folder was wrong.
forgot the url: http://www.jemineetje.nl/blog/photos/
Mike: great photos! Your site is working fine for me. It maybe took your server a while to write the caches to disk or something.
AFA slickr/ showing up in slickr-gallery/, that’s a pain; it’s wordpress.org being difficult. I’ll try to sort that out soon. In the meantime, if you download from this site, it should create slickr/
hello Rupert,
cam you assist again? trying to get 0.5.2b running on wpmu 1.3RC3, results here: http://sasha.zice.ro/photos
see post on forum here: http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3716&page&replies=44
sorry, the correct url was: http://sasha.zice.ro/photo
sorry if I double post, but it seems my first comment disappeared?
I have had an older version working just fine with wpmu, now I updated to the latest wpmu 1.3RC3 and also updated your plugin to the latest 0.5.2b and all I can get is this: http://sasha.zice.ro/photo/
The album loads just fine, but you can’t see the thumbs. if you repeatedly click on an album you’ll see the thumbs for a split-second. Any ideas? Also see this forum post: http://mu.wordpress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3716&page&replies=44
thanks for the new update! your plugin helps me a lot. but I’ve a question.
How can I transport the “original tags” and “the flickr photo URI” to a single posted flickr image in wordpress post panel? Which variables I have to use for this?
I would really like it if the original flickr image tags will be automatical inserted in the WP 2.3 Tag insert field. Is this also possible?
Thanks for your work and hopefully a fast answer! ;-)
Bye
Strange things are happening. In my wordpress admin panel in slickr, I click on only the albums I want to display then update and save settings. What appears on the webpage is some photos mixed in from an album that was not checked and also I notice that a couple of photos that were recently deleted from the set in flickr are still showing up in the thumbnails displayed on the webpage…even though they are no longer existing in the set. Is there a way to manually control the ‘cache’…not sure what that does..does it store previously loaded photos? It doesn’t seem to be clearing and reloading properly. Also, I notice that if I uncheck ALL of the albums so that if I don’t want to display ANY photos at all, there is an error message that displays and it just shows random shots of all the albums. Why?? Is this something that may be just bugged from initial install of the widget?
Thanks for any insight into any solutions!!
Anyone whom may answer this, please email me since I don’t know if I can get back to this exact page to check in tomorrow…. val@moxiewellness.com
