Slickr Gallery 0.5b

Slickr Gallery is a light, very fast Flickr photo album plugin for WordPress. It uses AJAX extensively to minimize bandwidth use and present a slick user interface.
New in this release:
- Gallery doesn’t appear until entire page loads, guaranteeing that the lightbox script has initialized.
- Widget that shows recent/random photos.
- Minor code speed up.
Known issues:
- All albums are shown, regardless of albums selected in the Slickr Gallery options page.
It’s early days for Slickr Gallery, but you will hopefully find it very usable. Please post feedback in the comments below.

The photo page function doesn’t seem to work in Safari (I tried both the beta and the standard version). The list of galleries shows briefly then completely vanishes, leaving you with a blank page.
It works just fine in all the other browsers I tried though. Does Safari handle ajax in some weird way?
Whoa! you’re right. Thanks for the heads up. Can anyone verify whether this happens in Safari 2 as well as Safari 3b?
I just finished checking it in Safari 2, as well as Safari for Windows, and it doesn’t work in either of those either. It’s really weird. O.o
I installed the plugin but I cant access the actual slickr admin page. it gives a bunch of errors about Request.php.
Warning: main() [function.main]: open_basedir restriction in effect. Just downloaded and installed today
I too am having the disappearing photos – but for me it’s on all browsers. :-( The photos appear for a moment, but then vanish.
any ideas?

On XP, works fine for IE and FF. On OSX, works fine for FF, however breaks in Safari 3b.
I was curious, have you thought about working on a standalone gallery app based on the slickr interface?
superstarch: your site has countless, conflicting javascripts and libraries that are fighting with Slickr.
snowhawk: a fix is in the works… and being open source code, people are free to use Slickr as they see fit. That said, i have no plans to produce a standalone Slickr, but it wouldn’t be that difficult.
where do you edit the css for the widget? I see to have a weird padding gap that I cannot get rid of in my thumbnails
I noticed that the page that I have for my gallery says “page not found” at the top whats the deal with that? Since it seems like this is generated dynamically I can’t even edit a particular template file to fix this…
safari double trouble:
double wammy that slickr doesn’t work (disappears after loading) and also the lightbox plugin seems to never stop showing the loading circle swishy thing on safari, if i run it from your site on its own… lightbox standalone (not plug-in) works, but not your plugin – maybe just take whatever update they have that does this?..
anyhow, I’ve subscribed to the rss feed of your site and can’t wait til you get it working across browsers (my audience is mostly mac people, as i’m an artist – sorry i can’t help…. i know it’s open source, but this kind of code defeats me!); it’s a great plug-in. thanks for all the work and good luck; you’ll make a user out of me yet. best, n
This is a great plugin! The first one I’ve been able to get to work with wordpress 2.2.2
I have one question I hope you can help with. I setup a free flickr account and am using that instead of my pro account because I only want one gallery to show. Is there anyway to make it so that they don’t have to click on the gallery in order for it to load the pictures?

Thanks for all your hard work! This plugin is great!
I love this plug-in, looks sleek. It took a little hand coding because of Theme conflicts, but no problems otherwise…until I got TubePress today. Which I also love. After installing and running TubePress with no problems on my site I went back to the Slickr Gallery to find:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class pear in /usr/local/lib/php/PEAR.php on line 86
Help please. These two plugs are so sexy I dont know if I can do without either. Any help will do, I can get my hands dirty on this one.
Here is my Photo Gallery
nathaniel: Thanks for the kind words. I’ve noticed the lightbox issue for some time… grrr. I’ve got updates planned for that plugin. The good news is pretty much any lightbox plugin _should_ work.
I’ve implemented a fix for the Safari issue in Slickr, and am currently testing it at robingartnerphotography.com
findthejake: there is a way, but it involves rewriting portions of the javascript and php code, which I don’t have time to do at the moment. If you are loading one gallery, it doesn’t really sound like Slickr is your best solution; it’s designed to present multiple albums efficiently.
quik3r: the CSS for the widget is inline CSS in the…. slickr_widget.php
The page not found issue will hopefully be resolved in the next version, which should be out soon.
mint: It sounds like you do not have the required libcurl, an essential element of a webserver needed by Slickr to fetch data.
Thanks for the fast reply Rupert. A few more questions for you. What is the purpose of the scroll bar that automatically comes up with the description? Can it be gotten rid of? Also is it possible (probably beyond my skills) to turn the description into a link back to the flickr page in which the image resides on? Thanks.
The scrollbar is likely your theme’s stylesheets conflicting with mine.
The hack you wish to do requires a fair amount of knowledge of php and xhtml, and you’d need to hack both slickr and lightbox.
Rupert for someone as skilled as yourself I would imagine this wouldn’t be that difficult, can you assist? It would appear to be a very desirable feature. I understand the logic after looking at slickr.php. Basically I would assume you would take the the code that you use to link back to the actual flickr gallery and wrap it in an anchor tag around the description. I do understand its a bit more complicated but would really appreciate a some help with this.
I have a conflict between this software and TubePress. Once I install and run TubePress I get an error page instead of my Slickr gallery.
Any ideas?
quik3r: unfortunately, no. It really would require hefty rewriting of a lot of code in two plugins. You’re welcome to try, and I’m sure you’ll come to the same conclusion.
blntpro: post a link so I can try and debug.
Hi there, I’m really quite new at this and so would really appreciate some help.. Basically I can’t get the slickr gallery to work. It constantly displays a loading sign, whereas the links to the albums open up in a new blank window. Possibly to get some help here?

Thanks!
First of all, thank you for this amazing plugin Rupert!!
Here is my question: Is it possible to invert the order the photos are shown in the gallery -newer first as flickr does? I am trying, but my php programming skills are painful.
Thanks!
